Instagram updates its Edits app with new creator tools
Instagram has rolled out new updates to its Edits app, adding tools designed to improve video creation and workflow. Here’s what’s changed.
Instagram has introduced a new round of updates to its standalone Edits app, continuing its push to provide creators with more robust, native tools for short-form video production. The latest changes focus on improving workflow, expanding creative options and strengthening how edited content connects back into Instagram itself.
One of the key additions is the ability to include internal Instagram links within videos edited in the app. Creators can now link directly to other Reels or Instagram profiles, with those links carrying over when content is published. While the feature does not allow external URLs, it offers a practical way to guide viewers to related posts, series content or collaborator pages without leaving the platform.
Instagram has also expanded the app’s visual toolkit, adding a new selection of video effects that can be applied directly within Edits. These include stylised distortion and motion-based effects that align with current short-form video trends, giving creators more options without needing third-party editing software. The additions build on earlier updates that gradually increased the app’s range of fonts, transitions and audio tools.
Alongside creative features, the update introduces weekly content prompts, with the app offering personalised video ideas based on a user’s past activity. These prompts are designed to support creators who post regularly, helping them plan content more efficiently and maintain consistency without starting from scratch each time.
Improvements have also been made to the storyboard and clip management system, allowing users to work with multiple takes of video and audio within a single project. This makes it easier to compare performances, refine timing and assemble more complex edits without leaving the app or duplicating projects.
The latest updates build on a series of functional improvements added since Edits launched in 2025, including more precise keyframe controls, audio clean-up tools and voice enhancements. Together, these features signal Instagram’s intention to position Edits as a serious alternative to external video editors, particularly for creators focused primarily on Reels.
