Is Meta adding music to Threads?
Reports of a music feature being tested on Threads are circulating. Will this feature be added any time soon?
Meta’s Threads app is reportedly developing a feature that allows users to add music to their posts. This would bring the app closer in line with Instagram and Facebook, where users can already show off their music taste via similar features.
The music feature is currently in an internal prototype stage, as revealed by developer and reverse engineer Alessandro Paluzzi. Sharing his discovery on X, Paluzzi wrote, “#Threads is working on the ability to attach music 🎵 to posts 👀.”

Meta’s recent renewal of licensing agreements with major record labels like Universal Music Group and Warner Music Group included Threads in its coverage. This indicates that music functionality has been part of the company’s plans for the app.
In addition to the music feature, Threads is testing updates like customisable display names and profile cover images. These changes aim to enhance the app’s usability and bring it closer to competitors such as X (formerly Twitter) and Bluesky.
For independent artists, features like music integration can be a valuable tool for reaching audiences in a creative way. Sharing snippets of tracks or adding context through music can make posts more impactful and engaging.
Although Threads has not officially announced a launch date, the feature could appeal to both independent musicians and music fans alike. Musicians could use it to showcase their tracks directly within posts, while fans could enjoy a more engaging experience.
