Pixel Buds Pro 2 are about to get a whole load of new useful features. Plus, the earbuds launch in an all-new ‘Moonstone’ color.

Last week, Google took to the stage to announce new Pixel devices, including phones, watches and earbuds. Alongside the launch of the new budget-friendly Pixel Buds 2a earbuds, Google also announced a software update that would bring a bunch of new features to their flagship earbuds next month. Google launched the Pixel Buds Pro 2 in August last year, so it’s great to see them still getting some love.

The first update coming to Pixel Buds Pro 2 brings head gestures. Using the advanced accelerometer and dedicated sensor, simply shake your head to decline a call, or nod your head to accept a call or reply to texts. We’ve seen this feature launch in recent AirPods models.

Google are also launching the ability to talk to Gemini Live in noisy places. Gemini Live enables back-and-forth conversation with Google’s generative AI assistant. When paired with an Android device with Gemini installed, the Pixel Buds Pro 2 uses advanced audio processing to prioritize your voice and eliminate background noise.

Pixel Buds Pro 2 also introduces Loud Noise Protection. The earbuds will attempt to dampen sudden loud noise, such as a passing siren.

Finally, Adaptive Audio is coming to the Pixel Buds Pro 2. Another feature we’ve seen on many competitors in recent years, Adaptive Audio is a mixture of active noise cancellation and transparency modes, blocking out unwanted noise, while letting important sound come through.

Google Pixel Buds Pro 2 are launching this software update next month (September). There’s also a new Moonstone color joining existing colors – Porcelain, Peony, and Hazel. Moonstone is available for pre-order now on Amazon for $229 and will start shipping August 28.

Outside of these software updates and new color, the Google Pixel Buds Pro 2 are the same earbuds they were at launch, including the design, sound, ANC, IP54 water resistance and more.
