With ANC, Hi-Res Audio, Auracast, 52 hours of battery life, wireless charging, IPX5 and more, the EarFun Air Pro 4 offer true value for money.

Currently on sale on Amazon for $59.99, EarFun’s flagship earbuds provide all of the features of top-end earbuds at an unbeatable price.

Unboxing

The EarFun Air Pro 4 come in a well-presented, compact package, featuring the earbuds inside the charging case, a short USB-C to USB-A cable, extra-small, small, large and extra-large ear tips, medium ear tips already installed, and a user manual.

The case itself has a matte finish, with the glossy ‘earfun’ logo across the top. It’s fairly compact, but a little larger and thicker than my existing AirPods 4. There’s a USB-C port around the back and three LED indicators on the front that display case battery level. Flip the case open and you’ll find the two earbuds, a pairing button and two additional LED indicators that signal power, pairing mode, connection and reset status.

The earbuds are in place in the case by magnets. They feature a stem design, much like Apple AirPods, Samsung Galaxy Buds 3 Pro, and Nothing Ear.

Set-up

When brand new, there’s a small insulating film between the case and charging contacts on the stalk. Make sure this is removed before you attempt to pair. To pair, simply open the case and the earbuds will automatically enter pairing mode. On compatible Android devices, there’s Google Fast Pair to make connection a one-touch process.

The earbuds connect via Bluetooth 5.4 and support two key features. Auracast enables you to share what you’re listening to with two pairs of compatible headphones. Multi-point enables you to connect the buds to two devices at the same time. I was unable to test Auracast, but multi-point was easy to set up through the app and worked exactly as expected, automatically and immediately switching to the device playing audio.

The app

Although not required to get connected and start playing music, the EarFun Audio app provides additional features and customization to personalize the earbuds. At the top, the app displays the battery level of each earbud and the case. You can also customize the name of the earbuds, switch ANC mode, customize the touch controls, manage dual device connection, install firmware updates and more settings. ‘Game Mode’ lowers the latency to 50ms for a smooth experience while gaming. The app has many equalizer presets to let you boost of reduce certain charactistics, as well as genre-based presets. Alternative, you can fully customize the sound with a 10-band built-in equalizer. ‘Find Headphones’ allows you to play a loud noise in either or both earbuds if lost. There’s also a ‘White Noise’ section of the app that can play various landscape sounds for help sleeping.

Design and fit

The earbuds are compact, with an ergonomic design. They fit my ears perfectly, providing a comfortable and stable fit, with the in-ear tip giving a good amount of passive noise cancellation.

The earbuds are IPX5 sweat and water resistant, providing protection against water jets from any direction. This rating is a step above the IPX4 rating given to many competitors.

ANC

The EarFun Air Pro 4 feature Adaptive ANC with QuietSmart 3.0. This provides up to 50dB of noise reduction. Adaptive ANC automatically adjusts the degree of noise cancellation based on ambient noise and fit. Use the app to toggle between ‘Strong ANC’, ‘Balance ANC’, ‘AI Environment Adaptive ANC’, ‘AI Ear Adaptive ANC’, and ‘Wind Noise Cancellation’. There’s also ‘Ambient Sound’ mode, which lets audio in to help you stay aware of your surroundings. Pick between two ‘Ambient Sound’ modes – Default and Natural. Personally, ‘Natural’ sounds better to me.

When paired with the seal of the in-ear tips, active noise cancellation does a great job of further reducing noise, especially against lower pitch rumbles. Ambient Sound also does a good job of sounding natural, with some competitors’ ambient modes sounding too processed.

Internals and sound quality

EarFun Air Pro 4 feature a Qualcomm QCC3091 SoC, which supports audio quality at up to 24-bit/96kHz and 1.2Mbps when paired with compatible devices. EarFun claims Hi-Res Audio and Snapdragon Sound Dual Certifications, with aptX Adaptive technogy and LDAC codec supported.

Regardless of codecs and compatibility with your device, the EarFun Air Pro 4 sound great, with the 10mm composite dynamic drivers producing clear and detailed sound that gets plenty loud enough when the volume is pushed to the maximum.

Each earbud features 3 mics, including one facing the inside, one facing outward and one at the bottom of the stem to pick up your voice. These three mics along with an AI noise reduction algorithm and cVc 8.0 tech work together to ensure the best possible call quality.

Controls

The earbuds feature in-ear detection to automatically play or pause content when the earbuds and placed in or removed from your ears. If you prefer, this feature can be switched off in the settings.

The EarFun Air Pro 4s are controlled by taps on the outer surface of each bud. Personally I prefer the method of squeeing the stalk as on some competitors, rather than futher jabbing the earbuds into your ears. Touch controls can be used to turn volume up or down, play or pause music, go to the next or previous track, enable the voice assistant or switch noise cancelling modes. When switching noise cancelling mode there are helpful vocal cues to ensure you’re in the desired mode. In the app, this voice volume can be set independently from your device’s volume and switched between English, Japanese, German, and Chinese (Mandarin).

The touch controls are customizable, with the ability to choose what single or multiple taps do for each bud individually.

Battery performance

The EarFun Air Pro 4 last for 7.5 hours on a single charge with ANC turned on. Turn ANC off for 11 hours on a single charge. When paired with the case you’ll get up to 52 hours of battery life. These are very impressive numbers. Pop the earbuds in the case and fast charging will get you 2 hours of battery life from just a 10 minute charge. The earbuds case supports wireless charging.
