Deezer now tags AI music – the first streaming platform to do so
Deezer will now be tagging all AI generated music on the platform to boost transparency for listeners.
Deezer rolls out AI detection tool
Deezer is giving fans transparency by launching the word’s first AI tagging system for music. It’s aimed at giving listeners full disclosure as to tracks that are fully AI-generated.
“We are committed to leading the way in increasing transparency by helping music fans identify which albums include AI music.”
Alexis Lanternier, Deezer CEO
Earlier this year, Deezer announced it filed patents for AI detection tools, which is now being put into practice. The tool detects 100% AI-generated music from generative models Suno and Udio.

Why this matters
AI-generated music is an increasingly prevalent issue across the industry. Deezer recognises that AI generated music uploads have been on the rise in recent months, with “no sign of it slowing down”.
The platform now sees 20,000 AI-generated tracks uploaded daily– 18% of all content, and is up from 10% earlier this year. Ultimately, these AI tracks are diluting the catalog of tracks across the platform.
With that being said, most AI tracks are never actually streamed. In reality, AI tracks only account for 0.5% of total streams on Deezer and their main purpose is for fraud. Deezer announced that 70% of streams from fully AI tracks are fraudulent, with Deezer excluding these manipulated streams from royalty payments.
Looking ahead
This move puts Deezer ahead of the curve in the age of AI-generated tracks- and it might push other platform to act. As AI becomes a bigger part of music creation, tools like this could become standard.
Deezer CEO, Alexis Lanternier said:
“We believe a responsible and transparent approach is key to building trust with our users and the music industry.”
For artists and industry professionals, an AI tagging feature could be some well welcomed news.
