Death Of The Ringtone is Here
There is a very interesting article over at the Daily Rind which talks about the death of ringtones.
After two consecutive years of 50% drop in revenues, should we proclaim the death of the ringtone?
Since the beginnings of the digital music era, ringtones have been the majors digital income’s cows, accounting for 80% of the digital market in 2005 and 2006 in Spain which is not too far back (or maybe it is, in this unpredictable and fast changing new market).
The phenomenon had been especially significant in the southern European countries, although to be fair, part the reason for the huge gap in mobile vs internet share to northern countries relied in the fact that full-track downloads performance on south Europe was almost ridiculous.
