Blu DeTiger – First woman to have a Fender signature bass
Fender has released the Fender Player Plus x Blu DeTiger Jazz Bass, the first signature bass belonging to a female artist
Let’s explore why this bass is a significant milestone for Fender and female representation in the industry, and an excellent addition to the signature series lineup.
Blu DeTiger is known not only as a standout solo artist but also as one of the most sought-after session bassists in the industry. Having performed alongside major artists like Bleachers and Olivia Rodrigo, she’s well on her way to becoming a household name in the world of bass guitar.
DeTiger has a genre-blending sound that combines funk, pop, and electronic influences. Her live show is even more unique, as it combines her DJ skills with live bass performance. With her distinctive style and stage presence, she has truly become a symbol that will inspire the next wave of female bassists.
Signature Features
Fender worked closely with Blu DeTiger to design a bass guitar that reflects her artistic vision and delivers outstanding performance. The Fender Player Plus x Blu DeTiger Jazz Bass combines innovative features with DeTiger’s distinctive style.
- Chambered Ash Body
- Sky Burst Sparkle Finish with Matching Painted Headstock
- Custom Blu DeTiger Fireball Bass Humbucker and Player Plus Noiseless Jazz Bass Pickups
- 18v Active Preamp With 3-Band EQ and Active/Passive Switch
- 9.5” Radius Bound Rosewood Fingerboard with 7mm Pearl Dots and Vintage Tall Frets
- Custom Blu DeTiger Neck Plate
Blu put a lot of effort into designing a custom color that truly represents her identity, as an individual and as a player. Personally, I think it looks great; it’s really unique and sure to stand out. One of the standout features of this instrument is the chambered ash body, chosen over a lighter wood such as basswood. This makes the bass lighter while still maintaining its bass and mid tones. Overall, versatility and playability were Blu’s main priorities when working with Fender to design this guitar, and I believe the end result is a great representation of that.
Another step in the right direction for women in the industry.
The release of this bass is another rung on the ladder for women in the industry, especially in the often male-dominated realm of instrument endorsements. Blu DeTiger’s collaboration with Fender not only celebrates her talent but also highlights the importance of visibility and representation. It sends a powerful message to aspiring young female musicians. I can remember growing up without seeing many women instrumentalists; I mostly looked up to names like Rachel Goswell, Kim Gordon, Nancy Wilson, and Kim Deal. Although these names were a huge part of shaping and inspiring me as a youngster, it’s nice to see a new face breaking into the mainstream.
The Fender Player Plus x Blu DeTiger Jazz Bass is a symbol of a quality instrument as well as representation in the music world. With its stunning design and innovative features.
