IFPI announces the winner and top 20 of the Global Single Award for 2024, highlighting last year’s most consumed singles worldwide.

Music industry representatives, the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry have announced the results of the annual Global Single Award. All of IFPI’s awards are based on sales, including downloads, ad-supported free streaming and paid streaming, across the calendar year. The Single Award also includes consumption of remixes and alternative versions.

The winner of the Global Single Award for 2024 is American singer-songwriter Benson Boone, with his single Beautiful Things. Released in January 2024, Beautiful Things has gone on to be nominated for and win several awards. This marks the first appearance of Benson Boone in an IFPI Global Chart Top 10.

In fact, all of the top three, and four of the top five, come from artists making their debut appearance in an IFPI Global Chart, with the other artists, in order, being Sabrina Carpenter, Teddy Swims and Shaboozey.

Nine of the top ten were US artists, with the exception being Irish musician Hozier, who makes his first return to the IFPI Global Single Chart since his 2015 single Take me to Church.

At number nine on the list is IFPI Global Recording Artist of the Year, Taylor Swift with Cruel Summer from her 2019 album Lover making a resurgence, in large part thanks The Eras Tour.
