Apple Music radio stations go free on TuneIn
Apple Music’s live radio stations are now free to stream on TuneIn, no subscription required. Here’s how you can start listening.
Apple is expanding access to its live radio stations beyond the Apple Music app for the first time, making them freely available through a new partnership with TuneIn.
The deal brings six Apple Music radio stations, Apple Music 1, Apple Music Hits, Apple Music Country, Apple Música Uno, Apple Music Club, and Apple Music Chill, to TuneIn’s global platform. The stations are commercial-free and can be streamed without an Apple Music subscription.
You can now tune in across a wide range of devices supported by TuneIn, including smart speakers, headphones, connected cars, and web players. It brings Apple’s programming to TuneIn’s audience of more than 75 million monthly active users worldwide.
“Through our partnership with TuneIn, we’re able to bring that experience to even more people, extending beyond the Apple ecosystem and reaching music fans wherever they are,” said Rachel Newman, co-head of Apple Music.
Rich Stern, CEO of TuneIn, called the partnership a milestone for his platform. “Apple choosing TuneIn as the first platform to stream its radio stations reinforces our position as the go-to distribution partner for global audio,” he said.
The expansion comes as Apple faces competition in music streaming. Industry research shows Apple’s U.S. market share of digital music subscribers fell from 30 percent in 2020 to 25 percent by the end of 2024, while Spotify’s grew from 31 percent to 37 percent over the same period. Globally, Apple’s share dropped from 16 percent to 12 percent.
By offering its radio content outside the app, Apple is aiming to reach new listeners and potentially steer them toward its subscription service. Within TuneIn’s app and website, links to Apple Music will allow users to move from free radio listening into Apple’s paid ecosystem.
The partnership covers Apple’s live, human-curated radio channels. On-demand streaming, algorithm-based stations, and other subscriber-exclusive features remain available only through the Apple Music app with a paid subscription.
