Powderfinger Extend Their Sunsets – The Farewell Tour
Powderfinger (Australian rockers) will be extending their tour after 175,000 tickets sold out in record time.
Now new shows to “Sunsets – The Farewell Tour” have been added for the cities of Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth and Cairns.
“We were simply blown away,” says Paul Piticco, Powderfinger’s Brisbane-based manager and head of the Dew Process label.
“After a massive response from the on-sale, and with the shows selling out way faster than we could have expected, we started to get emails and calls from fans of the band asking for further dates as they had missed out on tickets. We convened a quick meeting last weekend and decided to add one final lap of [state capital] city shows that would, hopefully, meet the band’s fans’ needs.”
The 26-show tour begins Sept. 1 at the Newcastle Entertainment Centre and will now wrap Nov. 13 at the Riverstage in the band’s hometown of Brisbane.
“Sunsets” will draw curtains on the career of Australia’s biggest homegrown group of the 2000s. During a 20-year career, the band sold an estimated 2.5 million album, won 16 ARIA Awards and claimed the prestigious ARIA Award for album of the year on three successive albums.
