Dua Lipa has filed a $15 million lawsuit against Samsung, accusing the tech giant of using her image on television packaging without permission.

According to court filings submitted in California, the singer alleges Samsung used a copyrighted backstage photograph of her, reportedly taken at the 2024 Austin City Limits Festival, across packaging for multiple television models sold in the United States. The lawsuit claims the use of the image falsely implied an endorsement deal between Dua Lipa and the company, despite no agreement ever being made.

The legal complaint includes allegations of copyright infringement, trademark infringement, and violation of publicity rights. Dua Lipa’s team argues that Samsung benefited commercially from her image and reputation while using the photo without consent or compensation.

The singer is also reportedly seeking a permanent injunction to prevent Samsung from continuing to use the image in marketing or retail packaging moving forward.

Samsung has denied intentional wrongdoing, stating that the image was supplied by a third-party content partner who assured the company that all required permissions and licensing rights had been secured. In a public response, Samsung said it remains open to resolving the dispute constructively.

The case has quickly attracted major online attention, with social media users sharing images of the television boxes and debating whether the packaging appeared to suggest an official endorsement from the pop star. Some fans reportedly referred to the products as the “Dua Lipa TV boxes,” something the lawsuit argues contributed to confusion among consumers.

Industry observers say the lawsuit could become an important case surrounding image rights and celebrity branding in modern advertising. As companies increasingly rely on digital asset libraries and third-party marketing providers, disputes over licensing and likeness usage have become more common within entertainment and technology industries alike.

The lawsuit arrives during another major year for Dua Lipa, who continues to remain one of the world’s most commercially successful pop artists through global tours, brand partnerships, and chart success. Her legal team argues that maintaining control over her public image is central to protecting the value of her brand and career.
