Discover the best UK festivals to check out this season, from big names to hidden gems worth the trip.

Festival season is finally on the horizon, and honestly, there’s nothing quite like it. Long days, late nights, discovering your new favourite band by accident, and that unbeatable feeling of live music in the summer heat (hopefully). Whether you’re planning a full summer of festivals or just looking for one perfect weekend, the UK has an incredible mix of events to choose from this year.

From huge headline-driven weekends to smaller, character-filled gems, here are some of our favourite festivals you should definitely have on your radar this season.

The must-visit classics

If you’re looking for that classic festival experience, it’s hard to ignore Reading and Leeds Festival. It’s one of the biggest names in the UK festival calendar, known for massive lineups that span rock, indie, pop, and alternative.

In Scotland, TRNSMT continues to pull in huge crowds with a strong mix of global stars and exciting UK talent. Its city location makes it an easy choice for anyone who wants big festival energy without the camping commitment.

Further south, Victorious Festival offers a slightly more relaxed vibe, set right by the coast. It’s perfect if you like the idea of big acts but also appreciate a bit of sea air and space to explore between sets.

Meanwhile, Tramlines has built a reputation as one of the most enjoyable city festivals around, combining strong lineups with a friendly, accessible atmosphere.

Rock, alternative and heavier sounds

If guitar riffs are more your thing, the UK has plenty to offer this year. Outbreak Festival has grown massively in recent years, attracting fans of hardcore, punk, and alternative music from all over. Its lineups often feel fresh and exciting, with a focus on artists pushing heavier music forward.

2000trees remains a favourite thanks to its welcoming feel and consistently strong bookings. It’s the kind of festival where you’re never far from a great set, and the atmosphere is just as memorable as the music.

For something a little more niche, ArcTanGent celebrates technical and experimental music, bringing together artists who blur the lines between genres. A firm favourite for us here at RouteNote with a number of regular attendees!

Burn It Down and Takedown also deserve a spot on your list if you’re chasing high-energy performances and passionate crowds without needing to rough it camping in a field.

Boutique festivals with unforgettable atmosphere

Sometimes the smaller festivals leave the biggest impression. End of the Road Festival is known for its carefully curated lineup and beautiful woodland setting. It feels thoughtful and relaxed, perfect for discovering artists you might not have come across otherwise. They also have some of the most amazing installations, you really get a magical feeling when you’re there!

Lost Village offers something completely immersive, with detailed stage design and storytelling elements that make the whole weekend feel like stepping into another world.

Shambala Festival combines music with creativity, sustainability, and a strong sense of community. It’s colourful, welcoming, and always full of surprises.

In Wales, Green Man Festival pairs stunning scenery with a lineup that leans toward indie, folk, and alternative sounds. It’s the kind of festival where the setting is just as memorable as the music.

South West favourites

The South West continues to shine when it comes to unique festivals. Boardmasters is a standout, combining live music with surf culture and incredible coastal views. Watching bands with the ocean in the background is hard to beat. We’ll see you at the beach!

Rock Oyster Festival is ideal if you want great food alongside great music, blending live performances with a strong culinary lineup.

The Great Estate Festival brings something a little different, mixing live music with vintage aesthetics and a playful atmosphere, regularly showcasing local and upcoming talent, it’s definitely one to watch!

Little Orchard Festival offers a smaller, friendly experience that still delivers strong lineups and a relaxed weekend feel. You will also find the best pint of cider here.

Local favourites like Kernowfornia Festival and Wanderfal Festival highlight how much the Cornish music scene continues to grow, giving festival-goers even more options close to the coast.

Indie favourites and rising artists

For fans of indie and emerging talent, Truck Festival remains a reliable highlight. It’s known for its fun atmosphere and consistently strong mix of established names and new artists.

Y Not Festival strikes a great balance between big acts and smaller discoveries, making it ideal if you want variety across the weekend.

Dot to Dot Festival takes a slightly different approach, bringing emerging artists to city venues and giving music fans the chance to discover what’s next.

Big experiences you won’t forget

Some festivals are about more than just music, and Boomtown Fair is a perfect example. With immersive worlds, themed areas, and countless stages, it feels more like stepping into a living story than attending a traditional festival.

Every corner offers something new, from surprise performances to hidden venues, making it one of the most unique weekends on the calendar.

Something for everyone, literally…

One of the best things about the UK festival scene is just how varied it is. You can spend one weekend watching major headline acts in front of huge crowds, then head somewhere completely different the next week for a more intimate experience surrounded by nature.

From the creativity of boutique festivals to the energy of large-scale events, this year’s lineup shows just how strong the UK’s live music culture continues to be.
