Splice launches INSTRUMENT, bringing world-class instruments to your DAW
Splice has launched Splice INSTRUMENT, designed to “help creators shape their sound with world-class recordings.”
The popular sample library platform, Splice has just launched a brand-new flagship product called Splice INSTRUMENT, developed in partnership with Spitfire Audio. The product provides creators with access to professional quality recordings and fully playable MIDI instrumentation, offering an evolving music making experience.
Splice INSTRUMENT is a sample-based virtual instrument which can be downloaded as a plugin (VST, AU) to be used directly in creators’ DAWs. From the off, Splice INSTRUMENT will offer users 1,200 playable presets, with more being added in the months going forward. Some impressive highlights include legendary composer Philip Glass’ baby grand piano recorded in his own home in Manhattan, and drums by Abe Laboriel Jr. (best known for his work with Paul McCartney) captured at the iconic Henson Studios in LA. Plus, creators can get their hands on strings, woodwinds and drums from the world renowned BBC Symphony Orchestra at Maida Vale Studios in London.
Built with Spitfire Audio’s renowned technical and audio expertise, Splice INSTRUMENT is designed to be more than just a sound library. It brings together professional recordings, a simple and accessible interface, multi-sampled presets, and full MIDI playability. What sets it apart is its evolving nature: new free and premium presets from Splice Sounds, Spitfire Audio, and a host of celebrated musicians will be added regularly, alongside fresh features and updates.
“Splice INSTRUMENT marks a major milestone for Splice,” said Kakul Srivastava, CEO of Splice. “For the first time, we’re moving beyond samples into full virtual instruments, bringing creative control and world-class recordings to musicians and producers everywhere in an accessible, playable form. This is just the beginning of what’s possible when we combine Spitfire Audio’s artistry with Splice’s innovation.”
Paul Thomson, Co-Founder of Spitfire Audio, echoed that sentiment, adding, “With Splice INSTRUMENT, we’re building on the vision we began with LABS: giving musicians affordable access to inspiring, expressive sounds while keeping creative control front and centre. The library captures the richness of real instruments and the unique character of the rooms they were recorded in – sounds that are already shaping GRAMMY-nominated albums and blockbuster films.”
Splice acquired Spitfire Audio back in April this year, so this new launch is an exciting display of what these two audio powerhouses can achieve together.
As for pricing, Splice INSTRUMENT offers flexibility for creators with differing budgets by providing two options:
- Free Plan: Open to all Splice users, including new sign-ups. It includes hundreds of carefully sampled presets across pianos, orchestral instruments, choirs, synths, and experimental textures. New free “drops” will be released every month and, once downloaded, remain in a user’s library permanently.
- INSTRUMENT Plan ($12.99/month) & Creator Plans – Unlocks the full catalogue of 1,200+ presets at launch, including flagship sounds such as Ultra Soft Piano, orchestral sessions with the BBC Symphony Orchestra, synths designed with Nathan Fake, and global genre packs like Amapiano.
Once loaded up in the DAW, users can apply filters to search for the perfect instrument and sound. Creators can download instrument presets by logging into their Splice account. No subscription is needed to download the free instrument presets. Each preset has been meticulously crafted by Splice’s expert recording engineers and sound designers, regardless of whether they are free or paid.
For artists working outside of traditional studios, Splice INSTRUMENT has the potential to level the playing field. It gives bedroom producers, songwriters, and independent musicians the ability to access professional-quality sounds – the kind previously reserved for top composers and big-budget productions – without the need for expensive hardware or recording sessions.
With Splice and Spitfire Audio now working side by side, this launch could mark a turning point in how accessible high-end virtual instruments become for the next generation of creators.
