YouTube’s affordable, ad-free subscription tier is being rolled out to India and more territories.

YouTube has expanded its more affordable Premium Lite plan to new regions, giving viewers another way to watch without interruptions. According to 9to5Google, the service has now launched in India, while also being rolled out to Japan and the Philippines.

Premium Lite is a lighter version of YouTube’s full Premium subscription. It removes ads from most videos but does not include YouTube Music, and users cannot download content for offline viewing on mobile devices. Shorts are unaffected though, meaning ads will still appear for subscribers of this tier. For people who mainly just want an uninterrupted viewing experience at a lower cost, Premium Lite is an attractive choice. The plan has already been made available in several regions worldwide, with YouTube continuing to expand it to more countries over time.

Google’s announcement explains that, in India, Premium Lite is priced at ₹89 per month, roughly $1 USD, compared with ₹149 for the full Premium subscription. In the US, the Lite plan costs $7.99 per month, showing how prices vary between regions. This lower-cost option gives viewers the main benefit of Premium – ad-free videos – without the additional features of the full subscription.

Alongside India, Premium Lite is now live in Japan and the Philippines. The service is already available in the US, UK, much of Europe, and several other countries. In South Korea, YouTube has also launched Premium Lite after separating YouTube Music from its full Premium subscription, following a regulatory agreement with the country, showing how the service continues to expand into new markets.

With more than 125 million subscribers across YouTube Music and Premium globally, offering a lower-cost option like Lite helps YouTube reach audiences who might not subscribe to the full plan. It also reflects a growing focus on flexibility, letting users choose the subscription that suits their needs best.
