Reels, Carousel, Single Photos, Stories, Lives, Channels – it can be confusing posting to Instagram. The official ‘Creators’ account has posted a handy infographic, that shows when to use each content type, to help you target the right audience and refine your posting strategy. According to parent company Meta, 50% of time on Instagram is spent on their short-form video platform, Reels.

As they can be recommended to users who don’t follow you through the Feed and Reels tab, Reels and Carousels are best for finding a new audience. Carousels, Single Photos, and Stories all help you engage your existing followers by being surfaced in their Feed and Stories flow. Lives and Channels are best for engaging your most loyal fans, with the latter showing up right in your audience’s DMs.
