Spain’s live music industry hit new heights in 2024, with total ticket sales reaching a historic €725.6 million.

A thriving live music scene in Spain

For the third consecutive year, Spain’s live music sector has set new revenue records. According to the Spanish Association of Music (APM), ticket sales surged by 25.32% compared to 2023, reaching a staggering €725.6 million. For artists, this impressive growth signifies the appeal of performing in Spain.

The top-performing regions and cities

Several regions played a crucial role in Spain’s booming live music industry. The Community of Madrid led the way, accounting for 25.55% of Spain’s total revenue. The region contributed €185.3 million, nearly doubling its earnings from the previous year.

Catalonia followed with €138.5 million (19.11% of total sales), though it saw a 9.16% decline from 2023. Andalusia followed in third with €116.1 million (16.01% of total revenue), marking a notable 21.34% growth from 2023.

Looking at individual cities, the top three contributors to Spain’s live music revenue were:

  1. Madrid – €185.3m revenue (+96.04% from 2023)
  2. Barcelona – €113.4m revenue (-14.37% from 2023)
  3. Seville – €35.3m revenue (+61.08% from 2023)

2024’s best-selling tours in Spain

Spain’s live music success was fueled by a mix of national and international tours, with APM “highlighting the presence of two Spanish-speaking artists in the top 3” international tours.

Top 3 national tours:

  1. Melendi – 41 concerts, 501,197 tickets sold
  2. Estopa – 25 concerts, 376,805 tickets sold
  3. Robe – 37 concerts, 280,901 tickets sold

Top 3 international tours:

  1. Bruce Springsteen – 5 concerts, 275,885 tickets sold
  2. Karol G – 4 concerts, 219,942 tickets sold
  3. Luis Miguel – 12 concerts, 203,114 tickets sold

Remarkably, Bruce and Springsteen and Karol G achieved impressive ticket sales despite playing far fewer shows. On top of this, if Springsteen’s two Barcelona concerts from 2023 were included, he would have sold over 350,000 tickets within 14 months– a feat that Doctor Music CEO Neo Sala described as an “absolute record in Spain”.

What this means for artists

For artists looking to expand their reach, Spain’s growing live music scene presents a golden opportunity. The growing demand for live performances in Spain highlights the country’s demand for live performances.

While APM’s report lobbies for clearer tax regulations for international artists and a crackdown on fraudulent ticket resales, the growth of live ticket revenues shows an undeniable opportunity for artists.

Performing live remains a crucial way for artists to connect with fans, grow their audience, and increase their global presence. With Spain proving to be lucrative for live performances, maybe it’s time to add it to your next tour schedule?
