YouTube just hit 125 million Music and Premium subscribers! Discover what it means for users and the music industry.
YouTube has reached a new milestone, announcing that its combined Music and Premium subscription services now boast over 125 million subscribers globally, including those on trial periods. This marks an increase from 100 million subscribers reported in February 2024, reflecting a growth of approximately 25 million subscribers over the past year.
YouTube’s Premium service offers an ad-free experience, background playback, and offline downloads across the platform, while YouTube Music provides a dedicated music streaming service. To cater to a broader audience, YouTube has introduced “Premium Lite,” a more affordable subscription tier priced at $7.99 per month in the United States. This plan offers an ad-free experience for most videos, excluding music content, and is designed for users who primarily consume non-music videos.
Lyor Cohen, YouTube’s Global Head of Music, expressed his excitement about reaching the 125 million subscriber milestone, noting that many had initially doubted such growth was possible. He emphasized that this momentum is crucial to YouTube’s goal of becoming the top revenue contributor to the music industry.
The steady increase in subscribers helps show YouTube’s commitment to enhancing user experience and creating additional revenue opportunities for creators and partners. As the platform continues to evolve, it aims to provide diverse options that cater to varying user preferences, ensuring that both content creators and consumers benefit from its services.
