DistroKid Withdrawal Fees: How Much Does It Cost to Get Paid?
DistroKid says artists keep 100% of their ordinary streaming and download royalties.
That’s true in terms of DistroKid’s distribution commission.
But withdrawing that money can still cost you.
Current DistroKid withdrawal fees
DistroKid uses Tipalti for artist payments.
Current listed fees include:
US ACH: $1.12
US eCheck: $1.69
Non-US local bank transfer/eCheck/SEPA: $5.62
Paper check: $3.37
US wire: $16.85
International wire in local currency: $21.47
International wire in USD: $29.21
PayPal also carries a fixed fee plus 2%, subject to caps.
Currency conversion can attract an FX fee of up to 3%.
Why this matters for small artists
Imagine you have $40 of royalties available.
A $5.62 withdrawal cost is over 14% of that balance.
If you’ve earned $4,000, the same fixed fee is almost irrelevant.
That’s why payout economics affect smaller artists disproportionately.
Should you withdraw less frequently?
Potentially.
If your payment method has a fixed transaction charge, combining royalties into larger withdrawals can reduce the fee as a percentage of your earnings.
DistroKid itself notes that withdrawing larger amounts can help users retain more where fixed payout charges apply.
There is a minimum
DistroKid currently has a $6 minimum payout threshold, although the required balance may need to be higher if your chosen payout fee exceeds that amount.
Does this mean DistroKid’s 100% claim is wrong?
No.
DistroKid isn’t taking a standard percentage of normal DSP income.
Payment-processing charges are separate.
But from the artist’s point of view, what matters is ultimately:
How much money arrives in my bank account?
That’s why musicians comparing distributors should look at the entire payout chain rather than royalty-share percentages alone.
