한승기 – 애월의 노래 Review – A Harmonica Farewell to Jeju
‘애월의 노래’ is a new single from Korean singer 한승기, out on James Ahn Music. It says goodbye to Aewol on Jeju Island and promises to come back one day.
Guitar, bass, piano and harmonica carry the song, and the energy stays high. The line ‘애월아 잘 있거라, 오빠는 간다’ waves goodbye, then ‘언젠가 예쁜 집 짓고 애월에서 살고 말 거야’ – one day I will build a pretty house and live in Aewol – turns it into a promise. James Ahn wrote and composed it, and Frank Arkwright of Abbey Road Studios mastered it.
A harmonica goodbye to Aewol, with a promise to come back.
한승기 first played live in 1981 with the five-piece band 휘닉스 at Dongmyeong Theatre in Gangneung. A gold prize at the 1989 MBC Rookie Song Festival for ‘눈물의 장미’ followed, then the debut album ‘한때 흐리고 갬’ in 1990. The best-known song is ‘연인’ from the second album in 1999, and 한승기 compares this voice to an earthenware bowl.
It suits playlists of adult ballads and songs about leaving. Fans of 박강성, 임지훈 or 김범룡 will feel at home.
