Apple’s first foldable iPhone could be just days away.

Apple is holding its next major iPhone event on September 9, 2026, and multiple reports suggest the company could finally unveil its long-rumoured foldable iPhone alongside the iPhone 18 Pro models. The device has variously been referred to as the iPhone Fold and iPhone Ultra, although Apple has not yet officially confirmed its name.

For music fans considering Apple’s first folding phone, there is an obvious question:

Will Spotify, YouTube Music and Apple Music work on the foldable iPhone?

The short answer is almost certainly yes.

All three music streaming services already support the iPhone, while Spotify and YouTube Music also have dedicated iPad support. That could make music apps particularly well suited to Apple’s expected larger folding display.

Will Spotify work on the iPhone Fold?

Spotify should work on Apple’s foldable iPhone.

Spotify’s current iOS app officially supports both iPhone and iPad, as well as Apple Watch and Apple TV.

That is important because Apple’s foldable iPhone is expected to behave somewhere between an iPhone and a small iPad when opened.

Current reports suggest Apple’s first foldable could use a book-style design with an external smartphone display and a larger internal screen approaching the size of an iPad mini.

Spotify already has interfaces designed for both smaller iPhone screens and considerably larger iPad displays.

That means Spotify should not need to create an entirely new application simply to support the foldable iPhone.

The more interesting question is how well Spotify will take advantage of the larger display.

What could Spotify look like on an unfolded iPhone?

The larger internal display could potentially allow Spotify to show considerably more information at once.

Will YouTube Music work on the iPhone Fold?

YouTube Music should also work.

Google currently offers YouTube Music for both iPhone and iPad, as well as Apple Watch.

That makes YouTube Music another app that is already designed to operate across multiple Apple screen sizes.

On an unfolded iPhone, the existing iPad interface could potentially provide much of the foundation Google needs to create a larger-screen version.

YouTube Music may actually be one of the music services that benefits most from a folding display.

Unlike most streaming services, YouTube Music allows Premium subscribers to move between audio and music video versions of some songs.

A larger display could make watching music videos considerably more enjoyable than on a conventional iPhone.

The YouTube Music App Store listing currently highlights the ability to switch between audio and video, along with features including lyrics, playlists, downloads and personalised recommendations.

An iPad-mini-sized folding screen could make those video-focused features much more useful.

Will the regular YouTube app work?

Yes.

The normal YouTube app already supports both iPhone and iPad.

A foldable iPhone could therefore become particularly interesting for music fans who regularly watch:

YouTube’s combination of video and music could arguably benefit more from Apple’s larger folding display than pure audio streaming services.

Will Apple Music work on the iPhone Fold?

Apple Music is effectively guaranteed to be supported.

Apple Music is Apple’s own streaming service and already supports iPhone and iPad, alongside Apple Watch and Apple Vision.

If Apple launches a foldable iPhone, Apple Music will almost certainly be one of the apps specifically optimised to demonstrate what the new screen can do.

Apple could also use the larger screen to display lyrics and album artwork simultaneously rather than making users switch between views.

What about Apple Music Classical?

Apple Music Classical should work as well.

Apple currently offers Apple Music Classical on both iPhone and iPad.

The larger display might actually suit Classical particularly well because the service provides more detailed information than a typical streaming app, including composer information, recordings, works and extensive album notes.

Apple’s iOS 27 changes provide another big clue

Perhaps the strongest evidence that existing applications will work properly on Apple’s foldable device comes from iOS 27.

During WWDC 2026, Apple told developers that apps should no longer be designed around specific devices and fixed orientations.

Instead, developers should prepare apps for what Apple called a “dynamic range of sizes and aspect ratios”.

Apple has also made iPhone applications more resizable and encouraged developers to build interfaces that dynamically adjust to the available screen size.

Officially, Apple discussed these changes in relation to features including iPhone Mirroring.

But the timing has attracted attention because the company is simultaneously expected to introduce its first foldable iPhone.

Code discovered inside iOS 27 has also reportedly included references to fold states, screen angles and multiple displays, further supporting reports that Apple is preparing its software for folding hardware.

Will every iPhone app automatically work?

Probably, but there is an important distinction between an app working and an app being properly optimised.

Existing iPhone applications should generally be able to run on the foldable device if it runs iOS as expected.

However, developers may need to update their interfaces to make full use of the internal display.

An application that has not been updated could theoretically appear stretched, use a simplified layout or fail to take advantage of all the available screen space.

Apple appears determined to avoid this problem.

At WWDC 2026, the company specifically encouraged developers to make applications dynamically resize to different screen dimensions rather than building layouts around fixed iPhone sizes.

Spotify and YouTube Music already supporting both iPhone and iPad should give them an advantage.

Could the iPhone Fold change how we use music apps?

Possibly.

Music streaming applications haven’t changed dramatically as smartphones have grown larger.

The foldable format creates much more room for experimentation.

Instead of switching between different screens, a streaming service could display multiple parts of the app simultaneously.

YouTube Music could place a music video on one side while displaying lyrics, comments or the upcoming queue on the other.

These aren’t confirmed features, but they demonstrate why a foldable screen could be more than simply a larger version of an iPhone.

Could Spotify or Google refuse to support Apple’s Fold?

This is extremely unlikely.

Spotify and Google have both had disagreements with Apple over App Store rules and payments over the years.

However, both companies continue to maintain major iOS applications.

Spotify is currently one of the most popular music applications in Apple’s App Store, while Google’s YouTube and YouTube Music apps continue to receive regular updates. YouTube Music was updated again in early September 2026.

There would be little commercial reason for either company to abandon users buying Apple’s newest premium device.

So, will Spotify, YouTube Music and Apple Music work on the iPhone Fold?

Almost certainly.

If Apple’s foldable iPhone launches as expected, users should be able to access all three major services:

Apple Music — Yes

YouTube — Yes

Apple Music Classical — Yes

Apple has not yet officially announced the foldable iPhone, so individual apps cannot technically confirm compatibility with a device that has not been released.

However, Spotify, YouTube Music and Apple Music already work across iPhone and iPad.

Apple is also changing iOS to make applications adapt more easily to different screen sizes.

The bigger question therefore isn’t whether your favourite music streaming service will work.

It is what those services will do with all the extra screen space.
