Upmootaeman has been releasing music from Seoul since March 2021, and the name he chose for himself translates as negligence at work. The catalogue argues the opposite. Singles, EPs and full albums have arrived steadily, among them ‘Layoff’ and ‘Pavlov’s Dog’, and he handles the writing, composition, arrangement, mixing and mastering himself.

‘go // go’ runs one minute fifty-nine and spends all of it on a single idea. The hook — gayahae, I have to go — returns and returns over a restrained delivery, and the production stays deliberately plain so that the repetition does the work. Fatigue and cynicism sit close to the surface here, in lines that state their case without dressing it up.

A rapper who produces everything himself compresses the will to keep moving into one hook and under two minutes.

He has documented the run in public. Seventy-nine videos sit on his own YouTube channel, a record of releases and process kept alongside the music rather than after it. Under the producer alias Little Rain he also worked on Kacey Fifield’s ‘Palms’, which has passed 690,000 streams on Spotify.

Short tracks tend to expose whatever they are built on. This one is built on a phrase that anybody who has pushed through a heavy week already knows, and it does not stay long enough to soften it. Give it two minutes.
