Sennheiser has announced its latest flagship wireless earbuds, and the biggest upgrade might not be sound quality, noise cancellation or even battery life.

The new Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 5 have batteries that users can actually replace themselves.

It is a surprisingly rare feature in the true wireless earbud market, where degrading batteries can effectively determine the lifespan of an otherwise perfectly functional pair of earbuds.

Alongside the replaceable batteries, Sennheiser has upgraded battery life, active noise cancellation, spatial audio, connectivity and the charging case for its fifth-generation Momentum earbuds.

Sennheiser says the redesigned ear tips work with an updated adaptive hybrid ANC system to improve both passive isolation and active noise cancellation.

Adaptive ANC automatically adjusts the amount of noise cancellation depending on the listener’s surroundings.

Transparency mode is also included for situations where listeners want to hear their surroundings without removing the earbuds.

For phone calls, the Momentum True Wireless 5 use multiple microphones alongside AI-based voice processing designed to separate the user’s voice from background noise.

Bluetooth 6.0 comes to the Momentum True Wireless 5

Connectivity is another major upgrade.

The Momentum True Wireless 5 support Bluetooth 6.0 alongside multipoint connectivity, allowing users to maintain connections with multiple devices.

Sennheiser has also introduced what it calls a “robust mode”, designed to improve wireless reliability in environments where lots of competing wireless signals can cause interference.
