‘Half Healed’ opens ‘deeep band 03’, a six-track set released through SOA. The lead runs one minute forty-six, which sets the terms for everything after it. These are sketches held to the length of the idea rather than stretched to the length of a song.

The running order reads as one mood worked from several angles. ‘Ghost in the Mirror’, ‘Understudy’, ‘Morning After Holds’, ‘Still Here’ and ‘Locked Out’ follow, titles that circle the same territory as the opener: something not finished, someone not quite recovered, a door that stays shut.

Six pieces that stop where the idea stops, and let the gap say the rest.

deeep works in batches. Nine releases sit on the artist page and most arrived in clusters, three sets in April alone, sorted by setting rather than by era: ‘deeep cafe’, ‘deeep drive’, ‘deeep spring’, ‘deeep band’. The naming treats music as something made for a place, and the catalogue is organised the way a library is.

Short songs make their own argument. They give you the shape and leave before the shape hardens, and a set of six under that rule finishes before it asks anything of you. Put it on when a full record feels like too much.
