‘함께하는 시간 Vol.2 – 햇살이 머무는 하루’ is a five-track EP written for cats and the people they live with. An animal behaviour specialist advised on the series, which puts it in a different category from ambient music that simply happens to be quiet.

The pitch track, ‘Steps Across the Sunlight’, was written and performed by malgeum. Piano leads, with flute and acoustic guitar filling in around it, and the whole set is scored to the shape of a day rather than to a mood board.

Volume one covered dogs. This second instalment turns to cats, and the change is audible in the pacing, which stays even and avoids the sudden dynamic jumps that unsettle an animal in the room.

Anotier of Booming Studios produced the series and Mingkoo mastered it. Functional music is easy to make carelessly, and a project that brings in behavioural advice and credits its players is doing the harder version.
