If you love Jungle’s “Back on 74”, start with Parcels, Franc Moody, L’Impératrice, Jamiroquai and Roosevelt.

Those artists combine different elements of funk, disco, soul and electronic music.

Some focus on live instrumentation.

Others use synthesizers and electronic production.

But all share the kind of irresistible groove that makes Jungle so enjoyable.

“Back on 74” appeared on Jungle’s 2023 album Volcano.

It became particularly famous through its extraordinary dance video, choreographed by Shay Latukolan.

The recording subsequently found an enormous audience through social media.

But the music deserves just as much attention as the choreography.

Here are fifteen songs worth discovering next.

The groove.

The bass and drums create a relaxed rhythmic foundation.

The vocals are smooth.

The arrangement draws from classic soul and disco.

But the production feels modern.

That balance is central to Jungle’s identity.

Their recordings often sound as though they could have been released during the 1970s.

Then a particular production detail reminds you that the music is contemporary.

Probably the closest overall recommendation.

Parcels combine live disco-funk instrumentation with sophisticated modern production.

The bassline moves constantly.

The guitars are clean and rhythmic.

The vocal harmonies are beautifully controlled.

If you enjoy Jungle because of the way the musicians interact, Parcels should be your first stop.

A particularly good recommendation for the funkier side.

Franc Moody combine electronic production with live-band energy.

“Dopamine” has an infectious bassline and a bright, playful arrangement.

The recording feels designed for dancing without becoming conventional club music.

If Jungle’s rhythmic personality is what attracts you, you’ll probably enjoy this immediately.

French disco-pop at its most elegant.

L’Impératrice combine funk basslines with sophisticated electronic textures.

“Vanille Fraise” has a relaxed but irresistible rhythm.

The production feels luxurious without becoming overly polished.

It’s an excellent recommendation for listeners who enjoy the smoother side of Jungle.

One of the clearest historical connections.

Jamiroquai were combining funk, disco and sophisticated pop long before Jungle appeared.

“Cosmic Girl” has an enormous groove.

The bassline is particularly memorable.

The arrangement feels warm and musical.

If you love Jungle but haven’t explored Jamiroquai, you’re missing an important part of the musical family tree.

A more electronic recommendation.

Roosevelt combines indie-pop songwriting with synth-driven dance production.

“Fever” has a warm, nostalgic atmosphere.

The bass and rhythm remain central.

It’s particularly effective for listeners who enjoy Jungle’s melodic approach but want something closer to synth-pop.

Another Jungle recording deserves inclusion.

“Keep Moving” is one of the clearest examples of the group’s love of classic dance music.

The track combines:

disco rhythm

soul influences

and sophisticated production.

If “Back on 74” was your introduction, this should be one of the next songs you hear.

A modern classic.

Daft Punk worked with Nile Rodgers and Pharrell Williams to create a recording deeply connected with older disco traditions.

The guitar is unmistakable.

The rhythm is precise.

The production is remarkably controlled.

If you enjoy Jungle’s retro qualities, this is essential listening.

A warmer soul recommendation.

Durand Jones & The Indications combine modern songwriting with the instrumentation and recording style of classic soul.

“Witchoo” has a beautiful groove.

The vocals are smooth.

The rhythm is relaxed but danceable.

This is an excellent way to explore the soul side of Jungle’s sound.

Minimalist funk with enormous personality.

Vulfpeck are known for their musicianship and deliberately restrained production.

“Back Pocket” has an unusually memorable groove.

The recording is playful and warm.

It demonstrates how little instrumentation is required when the rhythm section is strong enough.

For something more relaxed.

Khruangbin combine funk, psychedelic music and global influences.

“Time (You and I)” has an immediately recognisable bassline and a gentle disco rhythm.

The production feels spacious.

If you enjoy Jungle’s groove but prefer a less busy arrangement, this is an excellent recommendation.

A more psychedelic interpretation of dance-pop.

Kevin Parker combines synthesizers, bass and electronic percussion with a distinctive melodic style.

“Is It True” has strong disco influences.

The rhythm is central.

The production is more experimental than Jungle’s, but the musical overlap is obvious.

Elegant electronic disco.

Róisín Murphy’s music frequently combines unusual vocal performances with sophisticated dance production.

“Murphy’s Law” has a strong rhythmic foundation and enormous personality.

It’s a particularly good recommendation for listeners who enjoy the theatrical side of Jungle’s presentation.

Another essential Parcels recording.

Produced in collaboration with Daft Punk, “Overnight” combines crisp disco guitar with beautiful vocal harmonies.

The arrangement feels effortless.

But the musical control is extraordinary.

If you enjoy the polished rhythm of “Back on 74”, this is one of the closest matches.

For something more psychedelic.

“Hunnybee” combines a relaxed funk groove with dreamy vocals and warm guitar textures.

It’s less obviously dance-oriented than Jungle.

But the production has a similarly nostalgic personality.

A brilliant recommendation for listeners interested in the softer side of modern funk.

Finish with another Jungle favourite.

“Casio” demonstrates the group’s ability to combine emotional songwriting with irresistible rhythm.

The arrangement is restrained.

The groove is central.

The vocal feels intimate.

It’s one of the best introductions to Jungle’s wider catalogue.

Disco-funk.

Soul-pop.

Electronic soul.

Modern funk.

The recording combines several musical traditions without belonging exclusively to one.

That’s why artists as different as Jamiroquai, Parcels and Tame Impala can fit naturally beside it.

The common element is groove.

The song explores nostalgia for an imagined place associated with childhood.

Jungle have described the location as fictional rather than one specific address.

The idea is returning somewhere that once felt familiar.

But discovering that time has changed it.

That’s a surprisingly emotional subject for such a danceable recording.

It also helps explain why the song feels nostalgic despite being relatively new.

Because the choreography is extraordinary.

The video was choreographed by Shay Latukolan.

Rather than following a conventional performance format, it creates a flowing dance sequence involving multiple performers.

The choreography feels perfectly connected with the rhythm.

It also provided a natural route into short-form video.

People could recreate sections of the dance and share their interpretations.

For modern disco:

Parcels – Tieduprightnow.

For funk:

Franc Moody – Dopamine.

For sophisticated electronic soul:

L’Impératrice – Vanille Fraise.

Those three provide excellent starting points.

Follow the groove.

If you prefer live musicians, explore Parcels, Vulfpeck and Khruangbin.

If you enjoy electronic production, try Roosevelt and L’Impératrice.

If you want to explore older influences, move towards Jamiroquai, Chic and Earth, Wind & Fire.

“Back on 74” might have arrived in 2023.

But much of its appeal comes from musical ideas that have been making people dance for decades.
