Apple has unveiled HomeView, its first dedicated smart home display, combining a seven-inch touchscreen, powerful speakers and an AI-powered version of Siri.

With Apple Music playing a central role in the device’s entertainment features, there’s one question many Spotify subscribers will be asking: can you use Spotify on Apple HomeView?

The short answer is that Apple HomeView supports AirPlay and compatible third-party audio apps, meaning there are potential ways to enjoy Spotify through the device. However, Apple has not yet specifically confirmed a native Spotify experience.

Here’s what we know about Spotify compatibility, other music streaming services and whether HomeView makes sense for listeners who don’t subscribe to Apple Music.

Apple has confirmed that HomeView supports compatible third-party audio and video apps from an iPhone.

That’s encouraging news for people who use streaming services other than Apple Music.

However, Apple’s announcement does not specifically name Spotify among the supported apps.

This distinction matters because there are several different ways a music service might work with HomeView.

A service could offer a dedicated touchscreen experience, provide audio through Apple’s AirPlay technology or integrate with Siri for voice-controlled playback.

These capabilities are not necessarily interchangeable.

Spotify already supports AirPlay on compatible Apple and third-party speakers. Apple has also confirmed that HomeView supports AirPlay audio.

That makes AirPlay a promising option for Spotify listeners, although the exact HomeView experience will need to be tested when the device launches.

For now, Spotify subscribers should not assume that a dedicated Spotify app or full Siri integration will be available on day one.

AirPlay is Apple’s wireless technology for streaming audio and other media between compatible devices.

It allows an iPhone or iPad to send music to speakers over a local network.

Apple HomeView officially supports AirPlay, while Spotify lists Apple AirPlay among its supported speaker playback methods.

Once HomeView is released, Spotify listeners should be able to check whether their device appears as an available AirPlay destination.

The following steps use Spotify’s existing iPhone playback options and Apple’s standard AirPlay controls. The HomeView-specific connection has not yet been independently verified.

This approach could allow listeners to use Spotify on their phones while enjoying music through HomeView’s speakers.

However, AirPlay streaming is not the same as having a fully integrated Spotify app on the HomeView screen.

Exactly which Spotify playback controls appear on HomeView will depend on the compatibility Apple and Spotify provide.

Apple has confirmed that HomeView includes its own built-in Music app.

The company also says compatible third-party audio and video apps can be made available through an iPhone.

This suggests that HomeView is not exclusively limited to Apple’s own entertainment services.

However, Spotify has not yet been specifically listed as a supported HomeView app in Apple’s official technical specifications.

A dedicated Spotify experience could potentially allow users to browse playlists, search for artists, manage playback and interact with music using HomeView’s touchscreen.

Those features would make the device more useful for Spotify subscribers than simple wireless audio streaming.

Until Spotify or Apple confirms support, though, it would be premature to promise these capabilities.

It’s also worth remembering that HomeView isn’t being marketed as a traditional tablet with an unrestricted selection of downloadable apps.

Its entertainment experience depends on Apple’s built-in software and compatible applications.

Apple HomeView introduces Siri AI, an upgraded assistant designed to understand more natural conversations.

Apple says Siri AI can answer broader questions, use information displayed on the screen and offer richer music discovery.

For example, listeners may be able to ask conversational questions about artists, musical styles or music history.

Apple also highlights personalised music features when HomeView is connected to a compatible Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone or iPad.

This includes accessing relevant information from Apple Music playlists.

However, Apple has not confirmed whether Siri AI on HomeView will support Spotify as a default music service or offer equivalent access to Spotify playlists.

Those are separate capabilities from Siri’s general ability to answer music-related questions.

For Spotify subscribers, the key things to look for after launch will be whether Siri can initiate Spotify playback, choose specific Spotify playlists and control Spotify without requiring interaction with an iPhone.

Until those features are verified, Apple Music remains the service with the clearest officially documented HomeView integration.

Spotify Connect allows users to select supported playback devices directly from the Spotify app.

In a typical Spotify Connect setup, a compatible speaker or other device handles playback while your phone acts as a remote control.

Apple AirPlay works differently, sending audio from a compatible Apple device to an AirPlay receiver.

Although Spotify supports both technologies across different products, support for one does not automatically guarantee support for the other.

Apple has confirmed AirPlay for HomeView but has not announced native Spotify Connect support.

Anyone considering HomeView specifically for Spotify Connect should wait for an official compatibility confirmation.

Apple Music is clearly the most integrated music platform in Apple’s initial HomeView announcement.

The built-in Music app supports album artwork and lyrics, with animated artwork also highlighted as part of the experience.

HomeView additionally supports Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos for compatible content.

Spotify subscribers may still be able to enjoy music through AirPlay, but there are important differences between supported wireless playback and a fully integrated experience.

For listeners who already subscribe to Apple Music, HomeView looks like a natural extension of the existing Apple ecosystem.

Spotify users have more questions to consider before buying.

Apple’s announcement opens the door to additional entertainment services, but it doesn’t provide a complete launch-day compatibility list.

Listeners who subscribe to services such as YouTube Music, Amazon Music, TIDAL, Deezer or Qobuz should check whether their preferred service offers a compatible HomeView experience.

There are two particularly useful questions to ask.

First, can the service stream audio to HomeView through a supported playback technology such as AirPlay?

Second, does it offer a dedicated interface on HomeView, allowing listeners to browse and control music without constantly returning to their phones?

The answers may vary significantly between services.

A streaming app might support audio playback without offering lyrics, album artwork, account switching or voice-controlled search on the device itself.

One of HomeView’s most attractive features is its support for multiroom audio.

Apple says users can combine multiple HomeView devices with HomePod speakers and other AirPlay-compatible audio products.

This makes it possible to build a home audio setup covering several rooms.

Spotify supports AirPlay, so multiroom playback may be possible when using compatible devices and playback methods.

However, the specific behaviour of Spotify audio routed through HomeView should be verified after release.

For people who already own HomePod speakers, the addition of HomeView could provide a screen-based centre for their home listening system.

Feature
Apple Music
Spotify

Native HomeView music experience
Confirmed
Not yet confirmed

Music playback through HomeView
Confirmed
AirPlay route expected, pending testing

Lyrics displayed on HomeView
Confirmed for supported Apple Music content
Not confirmed

Animated album artwork
Confirmed
Not confirmed

Siri AI personal music context
Apple Music playlists specifically mentioned
Not confirmed

Multiroom audio
Supported through AirPlay
Depends on confirmed playback compatibility

Can You Use Other Music Streaming Apps on HomeView?
