A current October 2026 trend tracker lists “Ramalama (Bang Bang)” as a rising sound with around 430,700 videos, with the biggest new costume clips arriving on October 3 and 4.

So if you have been asking:

What is that creepy fashion-walk song?

Ramalama.

Who is Róisín Murphy?

Róisín Murphy is an Irish singer who first became internationally known as one half of Moloko.

Moloko made songs including:

Sing It Back

The Time Is Now

Familiar Feeling.

After the duo ended, Murphy began an unusually adventurous solo career spanning:

electronic music

house

disco

experimental pop

art pop.

Ruby Blue was her first solo album.

Rather than making the obvious glossy dance record expected from the singer of “Sing It Back”, Murphy worked with Matthew Herbert, a producer known for building music from unusual recorded sounds and everyday objects.

The result was deliberately odd.

That oddness is precisely why “Ramalama” still works.

What does “Ramalama Bang Bang” mean?

There is no straightforward dictionary definition.

The central phrase behaves more like percussion than conventional language.

Ramalama.

Bang bang.

Bing bong.

Sounds become rhythm.

The song repeatedly plays with the boundary between:

voice

body

camera

movement

and beat.

That is one reason it maps so naturally onto visual editing.

Rather than needing to explain a complicated lyrical story, a TikTok creator can simply move when the sound tells them to move.

The phrase itself functions almost like a drum fill.

Why does the song sound creepy?

Several ingredients.

Murphy delivers parts of the vocal almost theatrically rather than as straightforward pop singing.

The rhythm lurches.

Percussion appears from unexpected directions.

The arrangement contains dark cabaret and jazz-like colours.

Even contemporary reviews of Ruby Blue noticed that “Ramalama” sounded unusually menacing and theatrical.

It isn’t a Halloween song.

There are no pumpkins.

No ghosts.

No skeletons.

But it sounds as though somebody in an elaborate costume may enter the room at any moment.

TikTok did the rest.

How did the TikTok trend begin?

Versions of the walking format began appearing during summer 2025.

One of the earlier documented examples arrived in late July.

By the beginning of October, creators began adapting the walk specifically for Halloween outfits.

That transformation made perfect sense.

The camera stays low.

Suspense builds.

Then:

costume reveal.

Murphy herself eventually joined the trend in October 2025, giving it an obvious artist connection.

A year later, the format has become seasonal.

That matters for search.

We are no longer looking at one viral video.

We are looking at a recurring October behaviour.

Why does “Ramalama” return at Halloween?

Because seasonal social-media traditions now work almost like old-fashioned radio programming.

December:

Christmas songs.

September:

Earth, Wind & Fire.

October:

girl in red.

Halloween:

particular spooky sounds.

Once users associate a recording with a specific annual activity, the calendar itself becomes marketing.

Nobody needs to launch a campaign telling people:

remember “Ramalama”.

People start planning costumes.

They remember the trend.

They search for the sound.

The record returns.

Is the TikTok version the original song?

Often, yes.

But social platforms can contain:

edited versions

sped-up versions

short loops

reuploads.

The original recording appears on Róisín Murphy’s Ruby Blue.

If the TikTok clip catches your attention, listen to the full song rather than only the few seconds used in the reveal.

It gets considerably stranger.

Why does Matthew Herbert matter?

Because much of the song’s personality comes from the production.

Herbert has spent his career questioning what musical instruments actually need to be.

Percussion can come from recorded objects.

Rhythm can be built from ordinary sound.

Studio noise can become part of the arrangement.

That approach gives Ruby Blue a physical quality.

The album rarely feels as though somebody simply opened a laptop, selected a drum kit and pressed play.

Things scrape.

Clatter.

Snap.

Breathe.

“Ramalama” sounds almost handmade.

That is part of why it avoids feeling like a typical 2005 dance record.

Was “Ramalama” already viral before this trend?

Yes.

Murphy has had multiple moments where older catalogue music suddenly found online audiences.

The Guardian noted in 2023 that “Ramalama” had already generated an earlier TikTok challenge involving creators running to mirrors and miming to the track.

The current costume-walk trend therefore isn’t the song’s first internet life.

It may not be the last either.

What genre is “Ramalama (Bang Bang)”?

Electronic pop is the safest answer.

You could also hear:

art pop

experimental electronic

cabaret influence

dance music

jazz influence.

It doesn’t fit neatly into one box.

Murphy rarely does.

Songs like “Ramalama”

Try:

Goldfrapp – Strict Machine

Fever Ray – If I Had a Heart

The Knife – Pass This On

Siouxsie and the Banshees – Peek-a-Boo

Moloko – Familiar Feeling

Björk – Army of Me

Planningtorock – The Breaks

Róisín Murphy – Overpowered

If the dark atmosphere is what interests you, Radar’s darkwave guide is another good route.

If it is the dance production, go backwards into Murphy’s Moloko catalogue.

Why has “Ramalama” lasted?

Because it never sounded normal.

Highly fashionable production can age quickly.

A strange record often survives better because there is no exact trend for it to fall out of.

“Ramalama” sounded peculiar in 2005.

It still sounds peculiar.

TikTok did not modernise it.

TikTok simply found a visual behaviour strange enough to match it.

What is the Ramalama TikTok song?

“Ramalama (Bang Bang)” by Róisín Murphy.

Released:

<ol start="2005"
