class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Danoff played guitar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The rural road triggered the phrase \u201ccountry roads\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The feeling wasn&#8217;t specifically Maryland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Danoff later explained that it reminded him of rural roads from his childhood in western New England.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The emotional idea came first.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The geography arrived later.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">West Virginia fitted the melody and brought with it powerful images of mountains, rivers and rural America.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">But are the Blue Ridge Mountains and Shenandoah River in West Virginia?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Partly, but this has created endless geographical debate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Both are associated much more extensively with neighbouring Virginia than West Virginia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Danoff later admitted that his geographical understanding wasn&#8217;t perfect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He was writing a song, not producing a road atlas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p
