Increase the streaming quality first<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Before changing EQ settings or buying new headphones, make sure the music being sent to your headphones is actually high quality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Streaming services can automatically reduce audio quality to save mobile data or prevent buffering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Apple Music<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Go to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Settings &gt; Apps &gt; Music &gt; Audio Quality<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From here you can independently control the quality used for:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Mobile data streaming<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Wi-Fi streaming<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Downloads<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Apple Music also allows you to enable Lossless Audio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Apple&#8217;s lossless catalogue uses its ALAC format and ranges from CD-quality 16-bit\/44.1kHz up to Hi-Res Lossless at 24-bit\/192kHz.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For most listeners, however, simply making sure high-quality streaming is enabled will be enough.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Spotify<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Spotify users can find similar controls by opening:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Spotify &gt; Profile picture &gt; Settings and privacy &gt; Media quality<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Spotify Free currently offers quality up to approximately 160kbps on mobile, while Spotify Premium offers Very High quality at approximately 320kbps as well as Lossless audio at up to 24-bit\/44.1kHz FLAC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you&#8217;re on Premium and have plenty of data available, Very High should be the minimum setting I&#8217;d choose for everyday listening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Lossless is worth experimenting with if your audio equipment can actually take advantage of it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. Don&#8217;t assume AirPods give you lossless Apple Music<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is probably the biggest misunderstanding surrounding iPhone audio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Turning on Lossless in Apple Music doesn&#8217;t automatically mean you are hearing lossless audio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Most AirPods connect to an iPhone using Bluetooth, and Apple states that Bluetooth connections aren&#8217;t lossless.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That means you can have:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Apple Music Lossless \u2192 iPhone \u2192 Bluetooth \u2192 AirPods<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2026but the final Bluetooth connection prevents the entire signal chain from remaining lossless.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This doesn&#8217;t mean AirPods sound bad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">AAC over modern Apple devices can sound extremely good, and many listeners may struggle to hear a meaningful difference between high-quality compressed audio and lossless audio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But if your goal is technically lossless playback, you&#8217;ll generally want a wired connection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3.
