Spotify has now revealed its official Songs of Summer 2026, choosing five tracks that it says defined listening across the Northern Hemisphere.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Rather than simply ranking the five most-streamed songs, Spotify combined streaming numbers with cultural impact and editorial judgement to decide which tracks really soundtracked the summer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The result is an unusually varied list spanning pop, country, indie rock, Afrobeats, Latin music and hip-hop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Here are Spotify\u2019s five Songs of Summer for 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
There was really only one place to start.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ariana Grande\u2019s \u201chate that i made you love me\u201d became the most-streamed song of the summer on Spotify.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The song debuted at number one on Spotify\u2019s Global Chart on May 29 and spent 22 days at the top. It remained inside the Global Top 10 for 89 days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The success also helped Grande pass 100 million monthly Spotify listeners during August.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Released as the first single from her album petal, the song mixes polished pop production with much darker lyrics about relationships, public expectations and the strange experience of being loved by people who may simultaneously criticise you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It is exactly the kind of track that can dominate streaming: instantly recognisable, easy to replay and complicated enough for listeners to keep talking about.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Country music’s global expansion continued throughout 2026, and Ella Langley was one of its biggest winners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cChoosin\u2019 Texas\u201d reached number one in the United States, but its success travelled far beyond traditional American country audiences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Spotify says the song spent 98 days inside its Global Top 50 and became one of the most-streamed songs of the summer in the UK.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
That is perhaps the more interesting part of the story.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Country music has become increasingly international, with artists who might once have been considered primarily American acts now appearing alongside mainstream pop stars on global playlists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cChoosin\u2019 Texas\u201d is another sign that country is no longer a niche genre outside North America.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
For UK listeners, summer 2026 sounded very different.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sam Fender and Olivia Dean dominated Spotify listening across Britain and Ireland with \u201cRein Me In\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The collaboration spent an extraordinary 75 days at number one on Spotify in both countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Its combination of Fender’s huge, festival-ready songwriting and Dean’s soulful vocals proved particularly effective during the summer festival season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The track eventually reached number 63 on Spotify’s Global Chart on August 7.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It also shows just how powerful collaborations can be when two already fast-growing audiences collide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Few combinations were more obviously global than Shakira and Burna Boy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cDai Dai\u201d brought together Latin and Afrobeats influences as the official song connected to football’s biggest international tournament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It spent 37 days at number one on Spotify’s Global Chart and topped streaming charts in 17 countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to Spotify, the track enjoyed its biggest streaming day on July 20, immediately following the tournament final, and its music video became the platform’s most-streamed music video of the summer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The song also helped push Shakira beyond 100 million monthly listeners during July, while Burna Boy’s Spotify audience nearly doubled over the summer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Yung Miami produced one of summer 2026’s biggest viral hip-hop records with \u201cSpend Dat\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The City Girls member’s solo track took off partly thanks to a social media dance trend, helping daily streams increase by more than 200% over the summer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Spotify says Yung Miami’s monthly audience increased from around 1.6 million listeners in May to 6.3 million by August.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It is another example of the increasingly blurred line between streaming hits and social media hits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A song does not necessarily start on TikTok, Instagram or another short-form platform, but once listeners begin creating content around it, streaming numbers can accelerate incredibly quickly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
If we are judging purely by Spotify streams, Ariana Grande takes the crown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201chate that i made you love me\u201d finished as Spotify’s most-streamed track of summer 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Perhaps most impressively, Spotify actually included the track among its Songs of Summer predictions back in May.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The platform got that one very right.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But the wider list might be more interesting than the winner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Country music is becoming increasingly global. Afrobeats continues crossing into mainstream pop. British artists are producing huge domestic streaming hits. Hip-hop can still explode through social media almost overnight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And Ariana Grande remains one of the biggest pop stars on the planet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
