class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They collect certain performance royalties when compositions are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Broadcast<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Performed<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Streamed<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Played publicly<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A songwriter usually joins the PRO applicable to them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What does a music publisher do?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A publisher or publishing administrator manages broader rights connected to compositions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That may include registration and collection of:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Mechanical royalties<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Publisher-side performance royalties<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>International income<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Certain digital royalties<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Other composition income<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The exact service depends on the agreement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why would you need both?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because they perform different roles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">RouteNote currently recommends eligible Publishing clients join a PRO, while RouteNote Publishing then handles additional collection and administration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">RouteNote&#8217;s current guidance explains that its Publishing service can collect publisher-side performance royalties and mechanical royalties while the songwriter&#8217;s PRO handles the relevant writer-side income.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Example<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You write and record your own song.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Spotify streams it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Several financial events may happen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The recording generates master revenue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The composition generates publishing income.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Your distributor deals with the master side.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Your PRO and publisher
