What counts as \u201cMade With AI\u201d?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Apple’s guidance focuses on content where a material portion was primarily derived from a generative AI platform.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That could include music generated substantially through services such as Suno or Udio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The important word is material<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Using AI somewhere in a creative workflow doesn’t necessarily make the whole track \u201cAI-generated\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Who supplies the information?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Labels and distributors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Apple introduced AI Transparency Tags into its delivery metadata earlier in 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Those tags allow the content provider sending the release to Apple to disclose relevant AI use.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That means artists should expect AI disclosure to become part of the upload process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Keep records<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

For each release, record:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • AI tool used<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • What the tool generated<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Which parts were retained<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Human performances<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Human songwriting<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Editing<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Arrangement<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Production<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Tool licence<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Commercial usage rights<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    You don’t need a 100-page legal file.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    You need enough information to explain what happened.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    What about AI mastering?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    AI-assisted tools are already common in music production.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Artists use software for:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    • Mastering<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Noise removal<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Stem separation<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Pitch correction<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Audio repair<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

      That doesn’t necessarily mean the musical work was primarily generated by AI.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      The distinction between AI-assisted<\/strong> and AI-generated<\/strong> will become increasingly important.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Don’t guess during distribution<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

      If your distributor asks you how AI was used, answer accurately.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      False information can create future issues if a DSP’s own detection systems disagree.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      AI labels may affect listener behaviour<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

      Nobody yet knows how listeners will respond.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Some might avoid AI-labelled music.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Others may specifically seek it out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      The purpose of the label is ultimately to let the listener make that choice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
