DistroKid’s basic subscription gives artists unlimited distribution.

But the company also offers a selection of optional services known as Album Extras.

Understanding these is important because they can change the true cost of using DistroKid.

Current options include services such as:

Leave a Legacy

cover-song licensing

Dolby Atmos

Social Media Pack

loudness normalisation

Beatport access

and other optional services depending on the release.

Generally, no.

Artists can use DistroKid without buying every optional extra.

That’s important.

Calling them hidden fees would therefore be misleading.

Catalogue economics.

Imagine a $5 annual extra.

That feels irrelevant.

Now add it to 200 releases.

Suddenly you’re spending $1,000 every year.

Independent artists often evaluate distribution one release at a time.

Labels should think at catalogue scale.

Ask a simple question for each:

What value will this generate?

If Social Media Pack generates meaningful UGC revenue, great.

If Dolby Atmos is important to your audience, consider it.

If Leave a Legacy protects a release you want online permanently, perhaps it makes sense.

But don’t buy extras just because checkout suggests them.

DistroKid’s Album Extras make the platform flexible.

They can also make your total cost materially higher than the headline membership.

Always calculate the economics of your real catalogue rather than the theoretical cheapest account.
