Stopping a music-distribution subscription isn’t like cancelling Spotify Premium.

Your own music catalogue may be affected.

You pay for continued access to the platform and distribution service.

DistroKid’s Leave a Legacy documentation specifically states that the extra prevents releases being removed because membership payments lapse.

That tells artists something important:

Don’t simply let your DistroKid subscription expire without understanding what will happen to your catalogue.

Covered releases can remain available even when you cancel.

Current pricing is $29 for a single and $49 for an album or other multi-track release.

The charge applies release by release.

Imagine releasing music every year for twenty years.

Your distribution decision today could become a decades-long relationship.

Artists should therefore ask:

Will I still want to pay this subscription in 2036?

What about 2046?

What happens to my music if I don’t?

You don’t need to stay with one distributor forever.

You can migrate existing masters to another distributor using the same ISRCs and matching metadata.

Do that before ending the old distribution.

Never allow an important distribution subscription to lapse accidentally.

Your catalogue is an asset.

Treat it with the same care you’d give a domain name, company account or financial asset.
