Spotify has introduced Playlist Notes, a new feature that lets users add written notes to individual songs, podcast episodes and audiobooks inside playlists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Instead of simply adding a track to a playlist, you can now explain why you chose it, tell a story about it or leave a recommendation for anyone else listening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Spotify launched Playlist Notes in August 2026 for both listeners and its own editorial team. Spotify editors can use notes to explain why particular songs were chosen for major playlists, while users can add their own notes to playlists they have created or collaborated on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It effectively adds another social layer to Spotify playlists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How to add a note to a Spotify playlist<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Spotify says users can add Playlist Notes through the mobile app.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To add one:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Open one of your playlists in Spotify.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Find the song, podcast episode or audiobook you want to comment on.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. Tap the three-dot menu beside it.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  4. Select \u201cAdd note\u201d.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  5. Write your note.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  6. Tap save.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    The note will then appear underneath that item inside the playlist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    If other people can see your playlist, they can also see the note and your name will link back to your Spotify profile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Can you add notes to collaborative Spotify playlists?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    Yes. Playlist Notes can be used on playlists you create and playlists on which you’re a collaborator.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    That makes the feature particularly interesting for shared playlists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Imagine a holiday playlist where friends explain why they added each song, a wedding playlist containing memories associated with different tracks or a collaborative discovery playlist where each person recommends music to everyone else.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Spotify playlists are increasingly becoming something you can interact with rather than simply a list of songs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    What are Spotify editor notes?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    Spotify is also allowing its music editors to add notes to selected editorial playlists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    These can provide additional context about why a song was selected, what makes the track interesting or why it matters culturally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Spotify has initially introduced editorial notes on playlists including Today\u2019s Top Hits, RapCaviar, Hot Country, All New Pop, mint and Fresh Finds Hip-Hop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Users may also see those notes while playing the relevant song outside the original playlist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Where are Spotify Playlist Notes available?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    Spotify says Playlist Notes from editors are rolling out to Free and Premium listeners aged 16 and older in the US, Canada, UK, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
