Little Umbrella Expands Its Music-Game Footprint with Karaoke Battle Acquisition
In a strategic move that strengthens its portfolio of socially driven and music-centric gaming experiences, Little Umbrella, the game studio arm of Playroom, has acquired the popular Discord-native karaoke party title Karaoke Battle from AI music company Mayk AI (covers.ai).
Originally developed and launched on Discord using Playroom’s multiplayer technology, Karaoke Battle stood out as a music-focused social party game where players compete in fun, interactive singing challenges. The acquisition also brings with it a music licensing partnership with Stingray, giving Little Umbrella direct access to licensed tracks that can be used within the game as it’s expanded and evolved.
According to Playroom and Little Umbrella CEO Tabish Ahmed, this deal fits neatly into the company’s broader ambition to build out a music- and rhythm-based game catalogue that resonates with today’s connected audiences. The plan is not just to continue supporting Karaoke Battle on Discord, but to take it beyond its original platform — expanding it across new surfaces and devices.
“The team is excited to bring it in-house and expand our portfolio with music- and rhythm-based games,” Ahmed said, pointing to the potential for wider reach and deeper engagement.
From the seller’s side, Stefan Heinrich, co-founder and CEO of Mayk AI, shared his enthusiasm about finding the right long-term home for the title. Heinrich highlighted that the game was born out of a desire to explore new social ways of playing with music and expressed confidence that Little Umbrella’s perience with party games and next-generation interactive experiences will take the project further.
This acquisition marks a notable step for Little Umbrella as it deepens its investment in social, music-driven gameplay, aligning with broader trends in gaming where shared, platform-native experiences are increasingly central to player engagement. With licensed music built into the offering and access to multi-platform expansion, Karaoke Battle is poised to grow beyond its Discord roots into a broader entertainment property.
