Artist Interview
Q: What was the initial spark that inspired “Won’t Stop Loving You,” and how did the lyrics evolve as you wrote them?
A: I wanted to write a song that would be relatable to everyone, no matter who you are. When you’re deeply in love it feels like you’re flying, so I just wanted the vibe of the chorus to feel like that.
Q: How do you approach creating such powerful visual elements in your songwriting?
A: I try to write lyrics that catch people’s attention and are unique in some way. I also just love the fantasy genre, so that finds its way into my music often.
Q: Can you share a personal story that mirrors the sentiments in your lyrics?
A: We aren’t together anymore, but when I was 17, I once walked 6 miles through the snow to get to my girlfriend’s house at the time. That’s a true story!
Q: How do you balance acoustic style with a slow-dance feel to create a unique sound?
A: This song was written in 6/4 time, which is a very uncommon time signature for a pop song, but it gives it a slow-dance feel, like a song in 3/4 time, while still keeping a fast pace.
Q: Can you walk us through your typical songwriting process?
A: I start by thinking of melodies that I love first, and only after I’ve got all the melodies do I figure out exactly what I want to say lyrically.
Q: What challenges did you face while creating “Won’t Stop Loving You”?
A: The song has a really wide vocal range to it, so it was super hard for me to sing it all the way through. It took a lot of takes, but thankfully I got it eventually.
Q: What does the line “we’ll be the birds in a love tree” mean to you?
A: I just thought that line would be cute. The song feels a bit like you’re flying, so I thought the imagery of the birds in the tree emulated that in a way.
Q: What’s the perfect setting for someone to listen to “Won’t Stop Loving You” for the first time?
A: With the love of their life, during their marriage proposal!
Q: How does it feel to see your early writings transform into fully produced songs?
A: It feels really good when people connect with my music in a personal way. Honestly, that’s the entire reason I make music.
Q: What’s one of the most memorable reactions you’ve received from a fan?
A: Someone told me they used my song for their first dance. That made me tear up, I was so grateful and honored to hear that.
Q: Are there any new musical styles or genres you’re excited to explore in your future projects?
A: I’ve realized that I want to have many sounds, I think that makes me unique. I try to write in many genres, so my next songs might be anything from piano ballads to hip-hop, who knows?
Q: What are your goals for the future?
A: I just hope to make people feel happier, better, or closer to their emotions when they hear my music. That is all I can ever ask for, and all I’m trying to do.
Q: How do fantastical elements in your songs help you express real emotions and experiences?
A: I grew up reading many fantasy books, and I think there is some kind of special energy in fantasy that makes people feel bubbly and stretch the bounds of their world. I try to do that in my music to give people a chance to escape into a new world, for a couple minutes at a time.
