Rozu is a Seoul indie R&B and soul singer-songwriter who runs her own label, and ‘Beautiful Love’ is an English-language single built around the clear mid-tone voice she is known for. It follows ‘Same Old Lies’, ‘Ceci’ and ‘Midsummer Night’ in a catalogue she has kept deliberately small.

Bleem handles almost everything behind her. The long-time collaborator arranged the track, played bass guitar, drums, keyboards and synthesiser, then mixed and mastered it, which gives the single the coherence of a room built by one pair of hands. The writing credit runs wider, with Jeon Hyeon Ju on lyrics and Jung Seong Il and Kim Na Yeon joining her on composition.

One voice, one producer, and a kitsch room built to hold a love song.

The visual side is not decoration here. An ivory rococo headboard, satin bedding and a cyan monochrome portrait pull into a single kitsch world, and the song traces the texture of love from inside that world rather than narrating it from outside.

A single that arrives with an instrumental version alongside it says something about how the artist hears the arrangement. Rozu keeps her visual identity and her music on the same axis, and ‘Beautiful Love’ is the clearest statement of that so far. Sit with the room she has built.
