In what seems to be a bid to encourage users onto Spotify Premium, some Free users are finding their access to song lyrics restricted on the Spotify app. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Spotify confirmed to TechCrunch that &#8220;features can vary over time&#8221;, in response to questions about the restriction. Whilst they haven&#8217;t confirmed the feature restriction, users on Reddit have been reporting (and complaining about) the change. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/preview.redd.it\/spotify-premium-to-see-the-lyrics-v0-jx0xxswlerxc1.jpeg?width=640&amp;crop=smart&amp;auto=webp&amp;s=c05724d8434e1f0d8c1015208a6cc331e85bf36c\" alt=\"r\/truespotify - spotify premium to see the lyrics?\" width=\"640\" height=\"1024\"\/><figcaption><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/truespotify\/comments\/1chf942\/spotify_premium_to_see_the_lyrics\/\">Shared on Reddit by users MeowKat090709<\/a><\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Free Spotify users who have tried to show lyrics for the song they&#8217;re listening to are presented with a screen directing them to upgrade to Premium. The limitations began late last year when some users found the some restriction on lyrics. Spotify confirmed that they were conducting a test at the time. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After a successful Q1 for subscriber growth, CEO Daniel Ek revealed they planned to do more to encourage more to &#8220;turn to one of our subscription offerings&#8221;. It was recently revealed that <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/spotify-plan-to-launch-a-music-only-subscription-offering\/\">Spotify will be introducing a music-only subscription<\/a>, which removes audiobook access for a presumably cheaper monthly price.
