Instagram Reels are the social media giant’s answer to TikTok’s short, vertical videos but just how short are they?<\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Instagram<\/a> launched Reels globally back in August of 2020. The fun, short video feed offered an alternative to TikTok within everyone’s favourite image sharing app. Now, Reels earn engagement from Instagram’s over 2.35 billion monthly active users. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

When Instagram introduced Reels, they allowed users to record and edit video clips of up to 15 seconds. It was wildly shorter than the format that had made TikTok so successful, of sharing vertical videos up to 60 seconds long. With more competitors hopping onto the short-form video format like YouTube Shorts, Instagram quickly raised the maximum length to 30 seconds. Less than a year after launching Reels, Instagram allowed up to 60 second videos<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
