Have you ever wondered what a speaker would sound like with no ground interference, if it weren’t touching anything? The Mars speaker from Crazybaby answers that question with it’s hovering speaker.<\/h4>\n

The Mars is a bluetooth speaker that one up’s the others, not through quality… but through magic (or magnets). Created by speaker devs Crazybaby<\/a> the Mars features a small UFO-looking speaker that projects sound 360\u00b0 and levitates above it’s Subwoofer to reduce sound wave absorption from surfaces.<\/p>\n

The Mars is at it’s best paired with it’s subwoofer, which doubles as a charging base and the source of it’s levitational powers. The smaller speaker will automatically land itself on the speaker when out of charge and will raise itself when fully charged. Quite remarkably\u00a0you can take the smaller speaker with you and use it as a portable bluetooth speaker, though you’ll most of the\u00a0low end, and all of the sorcery, when out and about with it.<\/p>\n

Whilst the focal point for the Mars’ is clearly it’s floatability it features some other impressive abilities. When connected via Bluetooth the speaker will\u00a0detect your phone’s distance and can adjust its volume based on that. With a built-in microphone you can use the speaker as a speakerphone for clarity and space. There are also USB ports built in so you can charge your phone using the device.<\/p>\n

The Mars was developed thanks to a successful crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo<\/a> that raised $828,854, 608% of their original target. People were clearly impressed by the design and it’s no doubt impressive, and a unique concept – but is the whole package worth $330? If you want a nice Bluetooth speaker with some great features (like it’s portability) and an impressive gimmick then yes, probably. But if the gimmick doesn’t appeal to you, the sound quality isn’t noticeably superior than any of the other bluetooth speakers available at similar prices. That said, it’s a great conversation starter.<\/p>\n
