It is their largest royalty payment since they began in 1914.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Along with this, the American <strong>Mechanical Rights Organisation<\/strong> \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/www.themlc.com\/\">The MLC<\/a>\u2019 announced that they have paid out over $1.5 billion since their launch in 2018. With nearly half of this amount being generated in the last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3><strong>Why have publishing payouts grown so dramatically?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>There\u2019s numerous factors for why Music Publishing is growing so rapidly, but PRS and MLC have both stated the reasons for the growth is:\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Improvements in data matching from <strong>DSP<\/strong>s (A Digital Service Provider like<strong> Spotify<\/strong> or <strong>Apple Music<\/strong>). The MLC achieved a 90% match rate for all royalties processed through October\u2019s royalty distribution.<\/li><li>The full return of Live Music and multiple large touring artists such as<strong> Ed Sheeran<\/strong> and <strong>Shania Twain<\/strong> generating Live Performance Royalties.<\/li><li>More artists and composers joining these collection organisations, with over 4000 <strong>PRS <\/strong>members receiving their first payout in October and over 9000 new members joining<strong> The MLC<\/strong> this year.<\/li><li><strong>Spotify<\/strong> has reported an increase of 26% of active users this year along with a 11% revenue increase to \u20ac3.4 billion.
