Founder and CEO of Spotify, Daniel Ek announces in a Tweet that the company are testing a new “Your Offline Mix” playlist.<\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Spotify Premium subscribers have always been able to download playlists, artists, albums or songs for offline playback. A useful feature for saving data or those with patchy signal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

‘Your Offline Mix’ playlist is described as “A mix of your recently played songs for when the vibe is high, but your connection is low.” This playlist pulls all of the songs Spotify thinks you’ll want access to next time you’re listening offline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 3hr 31m playlist suggests there are between 50-100 songs. Presumably it continually updates in the background based on what you’re currently listened to a lot of at the time. No word on when it’ll be launched, but the Tweet suggests it’s not too far off.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to code found in the back-end by Jane Manchun Wong back in 2020,<\/a> Spotify seems to have been testing an ‘Offline User Mix’ some time ago. However the feature was likely shelved, as a lack of Wi-Fi was less of an issue during the heigh of the pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

YouTube Music has a similar feature called ‘Offline mixtape’,<\/a> which automatically downloads tracks based on your recent streams and refreshes every 24 hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
