After a 7 month ownership by Microsoft the renamed &#8216;MixRadio&#8217; was sold to LINE Corporation in December 2014. By the time it was bought by\u00a0Line it was an internet radio streamer much like Pandora.<\/p>\n<p>Now the service will be closing due to what LINE says is the service&#8217;s &#8220;poor performance&#8221; and &#8220;the financial challenges posed by the music streaming market&#8221;. MixRadio was unfortunately limited in it&#8217;s scope thanks to being available only on mobile with no desktop equivalents.<\/p>\n<p>The full statement by Line reads as follows:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>LINE Corporation, owner and operator of the free call and messaging app LINE, today announced it&#8217;s decision to discontinue the operations of its subsidiary MixRadio Limited. The MixRadio music streaming service will be discontinued in the coming weeks as we work with the technical team and partners to ensure a smooth closure.<\/p>\n<p>LINE agreed to acquire the business and assets making up the music service known as MixRadio from Microsoft Mobile OY in December 2014. The newly established company continued to provide a radio-style music streaming service intended to provide a broader experience. Nevertheless, after a careful assessment of the subsidiary&#8217;s overall performance, the financial challenges posed by the music streaming market, and priorities of LINE Corporation, LINE has determined that future growth would be difficult to ensure and decided to discontinue the MixRadio music streaming service.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Japanese messaging giant Line have been making the rounds in the realms of music streaming for a while. With their own music streaming service Line Music, a partnership with Omnifone and of course their ownership of MixRadio.<\/p>\n<p>LINE will continue running LINE MUSIC which they say provides &#8220;a unique user experience that \u00a0blends music and communication&#8221;.
