Apple Music just announced a huge milestone in the number of tracks on the music streaming service, but is it the biggest catalog out there?<\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Apple just posted an article “celebrating 100 million songs” on their music streaming service.<\/a> As the post explains, its been 21 years since the launch of iTunes, the backbone of Apple Music<\/a> and its library when it launched in 2015.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This huge number represents a shift in the business of music making and distribution<\/a>. In the 1960s, 5,000 new albums were released each year. Today, every day, over 20,000 new songs land on Apple Music.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alongside the celebration, Apple announced the launch of Apple Music Today<\/strong><\/a>, a new series that dives into the history of a new song every day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Apple’s post, global head of editorial Rachel Newman claims: “More music than you can listen to in a lifetime, or several lifetimes. More music than any other platform. Simply the biggest collection of music, in any format, ever.” While this is certainly more than Spotify’s 80 million tracks,<\/a> we’re not sure the statement is true.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Napster have been advertising over 110 million songs on their homepage<\/a> for at least three months now, while YouTube Music boasted over 100 million back in June.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n
