{"id":93108,"date":"2022-09-27T18:00:00","date_gmt":"2022-09-27T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/?p=93108"},"modified":"2022-09-27T18:48:06","modified_gmt":"2022-09-27T17:48:06","slug":"record-audio-on-a-mac","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/record-audio-on-a-mac\/","title":{"rendered":"How to record audio on a Mac without downloading any apps"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 style=\"user-select: auto;\"><span style=\"color: #3366ff; user-select: auto;\">While there are a ton of apps that can record audio, there are three pre-installed apps on Mac that make recording and editing audio easy.<\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>For Mac users, there are plenty of apps that have recording features like Apple&#8217;s pro-level <a style=\"user-select: auto;\" href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/what-are-digital-audio-workstations\/\">DAW<\/a> Logic Pro, or <a style=\"user-select: auto;\" href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/3-free-daws-for-recording\/\">countless third-party options<\/a> like FL Studio, Ableton, Cubase, REAPER, Pro Tools, Reason, etc. But if you just need to record a quick voice-over for your next TikTok using your MacBook&#8217;s built-in mics, you won&#8217;t want to or need to purchase, download and learn a new program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are three apps that can record audio that come pre-installed on all new Macs: GarageBand, Voice Memos and QuickTimePlayer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3>GarageBand<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If you need to do any editing to the audio, or need a specific file format or quality, we recommend <strong style=\"user-select: auto;\">GarageBand<\/strong>. <a style=\"user-select: auto;\" href=\"https:\/\/apps.apple.com\/app\/garageband\/id682658836?mt=12\">It&#8217;s free to download on the App Store.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Open GarageBand<\/li><li>Click <em style=\"user-select: auto;\">Empty Project<\/em> and <em style=\"user-select: auto;\">Choose<\/em> to launch a new project<\/li><li>Click the microphone under <em style=\"user-select: auto;\">Audio<\/em>, check the input and output, then click <em style=\"user-select: auto;\">Create<\/em><\/li><li>Simply click the red circle at the top to start recording<\/li><li>Once you&#8217;ve finished recording, click the stop icon to stop recording<\/li><li>Once you&#8217;re satisfied with your recording, click <em style=\"user-select: auto;\">Share<\/em> &#8211; <em style=\"user-select: auto;\">Export Song to Disk<\/em> to save your recording in your chosen format and quality<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"3680\" height=\"2242\" src=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/Screenshot-2022-09-27-at-4.51.12-pm.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-93109 lazyload\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3>Voice Memos<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If you just need the raw audio and don&#8217;t want to learn <a style=\"user-select: auto;\" href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/GAn_QPIAkdc\">how to use Apple&#8217;s free DAW<\/a>, <strong style=\"user-select: auto;\">Voice Memos<\/strong> or <strong style=\"user-select: auto;\">QuickTime Player<\/strong> will do the job. Voice Memos couldn&#8217;t be easier to use, with just one primary function &#8211; audio recording.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Open Voice Memos<\/li><li>Click the red circle to start recording<\/li><li>Click <em>Pause<\/em> or <em>Done<\/em> to finish recording<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Recordings are automatically saved to the cloud, so you can access them across devices. Use the icons in the top right corner to trim\/adjust the audio.
