An interview with Marques Brownlee about the WVFRM podcast, frequently asked questions, and the best practices for podcasting on YouTube.<\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Podcasts have evolved massively over the last decade, from an audio-only format, listened to by a small dedicated group. Now that podcasts have seen such a tremendous rise in the last few years, with the expansion thanks in part to Spotify,<\/a> many shows feature accompanying videos, allowing fans to connect with their favourite podcasters on a whole new level. Podcast videos on YouTube also benefit from the same revenue opportunities that YPP already provides.<\/a> In May, a survey from Cumulus Media and Signal Hill Insights<\/a> crowned YouTube as the most popular podcasting platform.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a recent blog post,<\/a> YouTube’s Chief Business Officer Robert Kyncl spoke to tech creator Marques Brownlee about the launch of the WVFRM podcast. Speaking on the distinct advantages of YouTube over other platforms, Brownlee said:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

YouTube has a discoverability advantage. There are people independently searching for topics or guests that stumble across my podcast. That doesn\u2019t happen on other platforms. We\u2019ve really loved that.<\/p>Marques Brownlee<\/a><\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Marques Brownlee goes on to flip the script to ask Kyncl about the future of podcasting on YouTube, specifically about plans for an independent YouTube podcast platform:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Marques: “Does YouTube have plans to evolve the podcast playback experience separate from any other normal YouTube video?”<\/p>

Robert: “We hear from users that they expect podcasts to accompany them throughout their day, whether they’re at home, at work, or on the go. We’re not there yet, but we’re working hard to ensure we support key podcast journeys across multiple devices and experiences so we’re available in all the places and moments in which users need us.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Continuing on the topic of podcasts on the video platform, YouTube’s Creator Insider uploaded a video covering frequently asked questions in the video below, including questions: “If my podcast is audio-only, how can I post to YouTube?” “Why should I upload my podcast to YouTube if it’s already available on other platforms?” “If I’m in YPP, can I monetize my podcast content?” “Should I include video ads in my podcasts?” The video closes out on some of the best practices for podcasting on YouTube.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
