Jowynalex&#8217;s track <a href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/track\/2q3bNZ6nIfKm0hCIfG7eB6?si=avHidVO0S1-7nv6qUGYFMQ\">\u201cCall Me Up (feat. Tory Lanez),\u201d<\/a> distributed via RouteNote, was recently re-released and already has over 20,000 streams on <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/can-i-upload-my-music-to-spotify-yes-and-its-free\/\">Spotify<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-spotify wp-block-embed-spotify wp-embed-aspect-21-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"Spotify Embed: Call Me Up\" style=\"border-radius: 12px\" width=\"100%\" height=\"80\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen allow=\"autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; fullscreen; picture-in-picture\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/embed\/track\/2q3bNZ6nIfKm0hCIfG7eB6?si=09c2c29a79a34049&#038;utm_source=oembed\"><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>We had a really enlightening conversation with Avenda\u00f1o. He&#8217;s a good example of an artist for whom being seen as a businessman is as important as being a musician. Confident in his own success, he&#8217;s proud to declare himself the first Latin artist to collaborate with Tory Lanez and Bobby V, and recalled highlights of running his company Celebrity MGMT Agency like being involved with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/B2XEA6FHAO8\/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=\">Bud Light 2019 Area 51<\/a> viral campaign.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He discussed the tricks that help him balance making his own music with running EEM Records, gave advice to other<a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/what-does-indie-record-label-mean\/\"> indie label<\/a> owners \u2013\u00a0and opened up about the bumps in his road to success. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Check out the interview below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color\" style=\"color:#1345ac\"><strong>Introduce yourself!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My name is Manuel Avenda\u00f1o, also known professionally as Jowynalex.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I&#8217;m the Founder and CEO of EEM Records, a <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/upload-unlimited-artists\/\">record label<\/a> I decided to establish when I first got into the music industry to sign myself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color\" style=\"color:#1345ac\"><strong>You also release music through your label as Jowynalex. How did you get started producing music?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I started <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/how-to-start-as-a-music-producer\/\">producing <\/a>music at the age of 15 and began a professional music career opening concerts for many major artists. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That gave me the opportunity to perform at Machete Music World Tour in 2010; an International tour by artists of the Latin Urban music label Machete Music owned by <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/universal-music-ceo-net-worth\/\">Universal Music Group<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"487\" height=\"480\" src=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/jowynalex-artist-interview.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-92044 lazyload\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color\" style=\"color:#1345ac\"><strong>Are you self-taught?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Yes, I learned to do everything on my own because nobody would help me back then, but it definitely paid off. I also <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/whats-the-easiest-musical-instrument-to-learn-how-to-play\/\">play the piano<\/a> by ear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color\" style=\"color:#1345ac\"><strong>Can you remember a moment you knew for sure you wanted to spend your time making music and working with artists?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The moment I heard myself for the first time on the <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/is-radio-still-relevant-for-music-artists\/\">radio <\/a>back in 2010 was when I knew I wanted to do it for a living, although it actually took me a decade to see earnings and build a successful brand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I decided to work with selected artists, producers, and <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/best-free-apps-for-songwriters\/\">songwriters <\/a>from around the world a couple of years ago because I love to help others, as well learn from their mistakes. It also helps me become a better businessman day-by-day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color\" style=\"color:#1345ac\"><strong>Who would be your dream collaborator?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I honestly don\u2019t have a dream <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/best-tools-for-collaborating-on-music-remotely\/\">collaborator<\/a>, because anything is possible as long as you put the work in and go after what you want to accomplish in life. Today, those I grew up looking up to now look up to me, as well as follow me on <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/10-top-tips-for-musicians-using-social-media\/\">social media<\/a> networks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So I know the opportunity is there, but I\u2019d rather have them approach me when the time is right. That\u2019s when I will know a dream <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/music-collaboration-how-to-work-on-songs-together-video\/\">collaboration <\/a>is happening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:center\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Call Me Up (feat. I have my own <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/how-to-start-a-label-online\/\">label <\/a>and can help.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Usually they take that as you bragging about it and makes them hate or envy you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color\" style=\"color:#1345ac\"><strong>How do you feel about social media? It can be easy to get obsessed over follower numbers and likes.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There&#8217;s a saying: \u201cThe more money you have the more problems you have.\u201d It&#8217;s similar to followers and likes. It seems to be that when you have more than others you become a centre of attention and a target for hackers, especially those that wish to see you fall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text alignwide is-stacked-on-mobile\"><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"612\" height=\"612\" src=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/jowynalex-eem-records-interview.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-92045 size-full lazyload\"\/><\/figure><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p>For example when I first got verified on Instagram in 2015 I worked really hard to get to over one million throughout the years, only to have someone hack my account and make me lose a verified badge, all because I decided not to work with them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Not only I did I want to quit <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/social-media-takeovers-tips-for-musicians\/\">social media <\/a>and give up on life, but it made me learn that what matters is not numbers or what evil people do to try and bring you down, but how you are mentally. Because they can do or say anything about you, but it\u2019s up to you if you let that affect you. So why not kill them with success and blessings.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color\" style=\"color:#1345ac\"><strong>Who would you say are your biggest inspirations \u2013 from a music point of view, and also from the business side?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>First of all, my biggest inspiration is my family because without their support I would not be where I am today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Musically I would say 50 Cent, because not only does he think like an artist but also as a businessman, which has lead him to be very successful in creating companies as well as helping others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color\" style=\"color:#1345ac\"><strong>What\u2019s been your proudest moment during your career in music?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Probably on March 31, 2020 when I joined one of J Balvin livestream on Instagram. He <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/B-ak9O4BR6f\/\">gave me a shoutout<\/a> without asking, also pronouncing my artist name Jowynalex perfectly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At that moment I knew that I had reached a level I dreamed and worked so hard for, to have celebrities like him know who I am.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:center\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Jowynalex (feat. It pays the most for streams today and is also the one who has helped EEM Records\u2019 music the most through editorial placements, so we are very grateful for their support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color\" style=\"color:#1345ac\"><strong>Do you think running a label would be possible without streaming platforms nowadays?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I think DSPs play a big role in labels&#8217; and distributors&#8217; success. Without them it would truly set things back to as it was decades ago, when the technology was in the process of evolving.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color\" style=\"color:#1345ac\"><strong>At RouteNote we believe anyone with a talent for music should be able to release songs online and get their tracks heard without barriers. What advice would you give to anyone setting up their own independent label?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One of the most important things is to learn the business and legal side first.
