{"id":91496,"date":"2022-05-04T13:00:00","date_gmt":"2022-05-04T12:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/?p=91496"},"modified":"2022-05-04T12:44:28","modified_gmt":"2022-05-04T11:44:28","slug":"soundcloud-acquires-musiio-music-discovery","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/soundcloud-acquires-musiio-music-discovery\/","title":{"rendered":"SoundCloud acquires Musiio in a bid to improve music discovery"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Image Credit: Synchtank<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 style=\"user-select: auto;\"><span style=\"color: #3366ff; user-select: auto;\">Musiio will aid SoundCloud in identifying both &#8220;talent and trends&#8221; to provide the best music discovery experience to SoundCloud users.<\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>SoundCloud has acquired Musiio &#8211; an AI music curation company based in Singapore. <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\" class=\"underline\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/most-streamed-soundcloud\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">SoundCloud<\/a><\/strong><\/span> hopes to improve the music discovery capabilities on its platform as a result, reports <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\" class=\"underline\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/musictech.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">MusicTech<\/a><\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>Musiio &#8211; an AI Music Startup for music curation <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Hazel Savage, a former streaming executive for Universal, founded Musiio in 2018 with full stack developer Aron Pettersson. Musiio&#8217;s AI technology &#8220;listens\u201d to music and provides automated tagging in addition to playlisting tools.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Musiio listens to tracks at scale and identifies characteristics and patterns within the music. The AI can then predict which songs a listener would prefer to hear next. This is great news for DJs and music lovers everywhere. Now we&#8217;re far more likely to find tracks we like easily. Oh, and it doesn&#8217;t matter if the artists are established or small-time either.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The terms of the deal are not disclosed to the public, but SoundCloud suggests that Musiio is going to become a core element of SoundCloud\u2019s discovery experience for users. Furthermore, Musiio will \u201chelp to identify talent and trends ahead of anybody else\u201d. Is there potential that this acquisition could be a huge win for independent artists? <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Back in July, Musiio secured an undisclosed round of funding which gave the company a valuation of $10 million, up from $3.5 million.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\"><p>SoundCloud is a unique business.
