{"id":91195,"date":"2022-04-12T13:00:00","date_gmt":"2022-04-12T12:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/?p=91195"},"modified":"2022-04-12T12:18:16","modified_gmt":"2022-04-12T11:18:16","slug":"nightcore-artist-edm-interview","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/nightcore-artist-edm-interview\/","title":{"rendered":"Nightcore hits 1 million followers on Spotify \u2013 RouteNote artist interview"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><em>Image Credit: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/nightcoreoff\">Nightcore<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2><span style=\"color:#3366FF\"> We spoke to electronic dance music artist Nightcore about getting Spotify followers, the art of remixing other artists, and social media marketing for musicians.<\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>We\u2019re celebrating <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/dance-music-distribution-free-for-all-dance-and-electronic-artists-and-labels\/\">dance music<\/a> artist <a href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/artist\/77t00lrU1uk65snqAdoPnt?si=3f18f2b00fc748b1\">Nightcore<\/a>, who has just reached the massive milestone of one million Spotify followers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text alignwide is-stacked-on-mobile\" style=\"grid-template-columns:26% auto\"><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"478\" height=\"826\" src=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/nightcore-routenote-spotify-.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-91204 size-full lazyload\"\/><\/figure><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p>Releasing their songs through <a href=\"http:\/\/routenote.com\/\">RouteNote<\/a>, as an artist Nightcore makes fast, exciting songs for tearing up highways or hitting the dancefloor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Their <a href=\"https:\/\/edm.com\/music-releases\/underground-vibes-076\">remixes<\/a> are nightcore edits, which are hectic, sped-up trance versions of popular tracks with high-pitched vocals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The original songs, meanwhile, are catchy as well as electrifying.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We spoke to Nightcore after their million <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/who-is-the-most-streamed-female-artist-on-spotify\/\">Spotify<\/a> followers achievement, to learn a little more about the magic formula that makes good nightcore songs.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color\" style=\"color:#1345ac\"><strong>How do you feel about hitting a million followers on Spotify? Are milestones like this one something that motivate you, or do you try not to obsess over statistics too much?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Nightcore:<\/strong> I try not to look at numbers as I mostly enjoy finding tracks that are going to appeal to my audience, but yeah, seeing how many people continue to follow us is really motivating!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I think that people love how much time I take to put content out now, I really enjoy showing our audience what I can make. I think up until recently, I&#8217;ve been so focused on just putting out music, I\u2019ve kind of neglected my <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/10-top-tips-for-musicians-using-social-media\/\">social media <\/a>presence. Social media is a huge platform for growth for any artist. These days, especially for smaller, independent artists, it&#8217;s the only way to get yourself heard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I&#8217;ve tried to update my <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/social-media-takeovers-tips-for-musicians\/\">social content<\/a> to have a mix of the older stuff I&#8217;m known for, but also adding in some newer stuff that is more current and that I think fits with the vibe I&#8217;m going for!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color\" style=\"color:#1345ac\"><strong>Do you think there\u2019s more freedom not being signed to a major label?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I think both have their advantages, being signed to a <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/is-streaming-biased-towards-major-labels\/\">major label<\/a> takes away a lot of stress when it comes to getting your music heard by people. That being said, if you have the drive and determination to go unsigned, I would always suggest it. You get a lot more creative freedom when it comes to what you release.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I wouldn&#8217;t be able to experiment as much as I do if I was signed to a big-name <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/what-does-indie-record-label-mean\/\">label<\/a>. A lot of my deeper cuts would get swept under the rug I think.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color\" style=\"color:#1345ac\"><strong>How do you choose which songs to remix?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From now on I\u2019m trying to release original content that hasn&#8217;t been done before and collaborate with other artists, I\u2019m still remixing tracks you all love though! I tend to get inspiration from <a href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/artist\/1feoGrmmD8QmNqtK2Gdwy8?si=0140ee9db858411f\">Tobu<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/artist\/1f3NYrlm9GpXxMz8XZGEP5?si=71d6f01bb4334a27\">Axero<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/artist\/7vk5e3vY1uw9plTHJAMwjN?si=01bf3947d3ba48cf\">Alan Walker<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-spotify wp-block-embed-spotify wp-embed-aspect-21-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"Spotify Embed: Best Of Nightcore 2022\" style=\"border-radius: 12px\" width=\"100%\" height=\"380\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen allow=\"autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; fullscreen; picture-in-picture\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/embed\/album\/4eV6KtF5JxKyu06hkQurQX?si=UT-Ku3VJTtmpJgI1L2-CcA&#038;utm_source=oembed\"><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color\" style=\"color:#1345ac\"><strong>What about original new nightcore songs \u2013 do you listen to other tracks to get inspired?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When I&#8217;m looking at making a new track, I actually try to avoid listening to nightcore as much as possible. I like to draw inspiration from a variety of other <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/which-genre-of-music-makes-the-best-cheese-this-study-found-out\/\">genres <\/a>that you don&#8217;t tend to see mixed with nightcore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I like to challenge myself by experimenting with stuff out of the norm. For example, a couple of the tracks I&#8217;m currently working on have drawn deep inspiration from rock &amp; metal music, I think that those <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/the-most-popular-music-genre-in-the-world\/\">genres <\/a>are really fun to mess around with.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color\" style=\"color:#1345ac\"><strong>When songwriting, do you start with a melody or lyrics first?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I tend to start with the melody first, as I find that is what sets many nightcore artists apart. Everyone can throw in some <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/top-10-tips-for-better-vocal-production\/\">vocals <\/a>to a track, but I feel what draws people to my music so much is the variety of melodies I work with.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:center\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Nightcore - Waiata\" width=\"720\" height=\"405\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/7A8Db1NE_sA?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color\" style=\"color:#1345ac\"><strong>What\u2019s one piece of advice you\u2019d give to unsigned artists releasing music through a distributor like RouteNote?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I think companies like <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/is-routenote-legit\/\">RouteNote <\/a>are great for the music industry, they take away a lot of the hassle that comes with being an independent artist and that means I have more time to focus on creating my music. Having someone who distributes all my tracks for me, and handles any royalty payments when they&#8217;re needed, is great.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There\u2019s a reason I&#8217;ve worked so closely with <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/can-i-upload-my-music-to-spotify-yes-and-its-free\/\">RouteNote <\/a>for so long. They&#8217;re a great group of people to work with and I strongly urge any up-and-coming artists, regardless of the music you make, to give their services a try.
